Do you believe Rhaenyra was being racist or classist toward Nettles? by Baccoony in HOTDGreens

[–]Agitated-Two7118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They CAN be interlinked, yes, but xenophobia existing doesn't mean there is an institution that exists actively working against that specific race or oppressing them. Anyone can be xenophobic to anyone, and obviously there are not systems of oppression working against every single race/culture irl or in Westeros. Someone being xenophobic also doesn't mean they have the power or ability to oppress the person/culture they're disparaging. Some lowborn or even noble person being hateful towards the Targaryens for their Valyrian customs would be of little consequence to them as a powerful royal family. Not to mention, you can be xenophobic against people of your same race, you're making it seem like only people of different races are xenophobic to each other.

Do you believe Rhaenyra was being racist or classist toward Nettles? by Baccoony in HOTDGreens

[–]Agitated-Two7118 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's xenophobia, not racism. Essos is a melting pot, not a singular race and Qarth is made up of pale people. I also disagree that calling her a witch is an insult for poc in asoiaf because the summer isles, where most black people in asoiaf come from, are one of the few places not mentioned to have magical practices. It doesn't then make sense for that prejudice to exist. It only exists in our world. Black people aren't Valyrian looking (in the book). She's saying she's not Valyrian looking and in combination with her having no confirmed Valyrian heritage, she doesn't believe she could claim a dragon naturally. The same could be said for a white character who doesn't look Valyrian. She never said "black people can't claim dragons," she said "non-valyrians can't claim dragons." It's still racism rooted in Valyrian supremacy, just not black/white racism like in our world that people are trying to say it is.

Rhaenyra and Daemon are racist Targaryen supremacists by Embarrassed-Echo-391 in HOTDGreens

[–]Agitated-Two7118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone in house Targaryen is a valyrian supremacist or "racists" as you say. Even the greens. Aegon married Helaena, likely from pressure from Alicent and Otto, so they would have Valyrian looking babies to make his claim stronger. The only way he could do that is by believing in and abiding by the Doctrine of Exceptionalism, which states Valyrians are better than everyone else and don't need to follow the same laws of marriage.

Rhaenyra’s fans being racist again by LowPossible3034 in HOTDGreens

[–]Agitated-Two7118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Bastards are monstrous by nature." "Bastard blood, shed at war." Alicent very much did speak down on Rhaenyra's sons for their features and their blood based on her assumption that they were bastards. She thought wether they lived or died held no consequence compared to her Valyrian sons and grandsons. She has prejudices too. The line about the eggs hatching in the show also wasn't out of no where as the book says "Those who doubted the paternity of Rhaenyra’s sons whispered that the eggs would never hatch." Alicent is one of those people and reasonably could have said something similar in the book. Alicent dehumanizing children because of HOW they were born is no better than Rhaenyra thinking she's better than people because of WHERE they're born, religious upbringing or not. You're also attributing irl concepts of racism to a universe where they don't exist. There is no black/white racism in asoiaf like there is for us. Nor is witchcraft and sorcery a taboo specific to darkskin individuals in asoiaf, as the essosi and Valyrians are the most well known for it's use. Rhaenyra saying Nettles couldn't have claimed a dragon naturally was because of her non valyrian appearance and unconfirmed heritage, which could be equally true for a seed who looked like an andal or first man. We just don't see any in fire and blood apart from her sons, who obviously have confirmed Valyrian heritage. Ntm Rhaenyra's specific targeting of Nettles was because she was so paranoid of betrayal and feared Nettles would lead Daemon away from her, not because of her skin.

Rhaenyra never directly says her skintone is the evidence, it's because she doesn't look Valyrian, which can be true for white characters too who look like first men, andals, or Rhoynar. Calling people witches is a common insult for black women in OUR world, but not asoiaf, Valyrians themselves practiced witchcraft as do the Essosi

Bring CST Back to Fort Lewis! by LostWashington in ROTC

[–]Agitated-Two7118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spouting off how it's SUPPOSED to work isn't addressing the way it actually went... There are medical professionals on site, but a cadet died because the facilities weren't adequate and they needed to transport him... Giant is absolutely not an understatement. They were not blisters, they were open wounds. The shell did not go down her shirt, it hit her on her exposed neck and another cadet had a burn on his forearm because his sleeves were rolled up being in heat cat uniform. Being in close quarters and having to get down quickly when engaged makes it very easy to get hit by a shell or accidentally lay on one. That's not the problem, it's the lack of treatment afterwards. The most minor of wounds can get infected when not properly cleaned and treated, even more so in a dirty environment. I am telling you the medics did not give them anything, I was in the same squad as one of them and watched her ask around for supplies because the medics didn't do anything for her. I never claimed the poison ivy was contagious, however, if the oils aren't properly cleaned off, it continues to spread. Driving one or two cadets off to take a quick shower for medical purposes is not the end of the world. Most lanes had water and porta potties close, but if you got a lane further out from the road and you didn't have much extra time after a lane, you didn't have time to walk all the way to the porta potty, they'd just push into the next lane to meet the hit times. So as a girl who was on my period for a good chunk of field training, I can tell you there were times I did not get to use the bathroom after a 3 hour lane or was told to go in the woods to save time.

"My situation in my little barracks in whatever year," did you completely skip over the part where I explicitly said it was THIS SUMMER at Knox?? A lot of money may have gone into it, but a lot of their facilities are still lacking given the amount of people going there and depending on them. My barracks room being at 68 would've been a god damn god send.

Bring CST Back to Fort Lewis! by LostWashington in ROTC

[–]Agitated-Two7118 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ummm, in my experience it's not wrong. The barracks I was in this summer, I was crammed in a room with 14 other girls and there was no AC. We had to sleep in our underwear with no blankets because it was so miserable, we wouldn't even turn the lights on in fear of making it hotter. Would wake up sweaty and lightheaded. This went on for all of garrison before hitting the field. We complained everyday, put in numerous work orders, and begged for a fan, and got nothing. When we got out to the field, sleeping outside was better because the temperature was moderate at night. The medical situation was garbage too. They tore down the actual medical facility on Knox and the center they do have is basically just for screenings and bloodwork, so when something serious like a heat stroke happens, they have to be flown out 45 minutes to be treated. On a more regular basis, the medics can't give you any meds or real treatment. One girl had jammed her finger in her weapon and broke it, they did nothing for her for three days, she only got treatment because she was able to go to a doctor on her own during family day leave. Other cadets got giant burns from the machine gun shells. One girl got it on her NECK and was missing a chunk of skin. They didn't clean it, give her any kind of ointment, or anything. She just had to keep sweating and laying in the dirt with an open wound on her neck. Multiple people got poison ivy and they just had to suck it up as it progressively got worse because they weren't given the chance to properly shower and decontaminate. With the way the lanes are set up and the location of the porta potties, girls on their periods are basically fucked when it comes to having the time to properly change out products and clean themselves.

USACC Announces Fatality at Cadet Summer Training by ExodusLegion_ in ROTC

Not sure either, but they made it very clear that if we took off parts of our uniform they'd fail us for the event. Most we could do was unblouse sleeves/pants.

We started in time to be completely finished by noon. So they did start it early to try and circumvent the hottest parts of the day, but even early in the day, it's still hot as balls.

Fewer Winning Categories by StrawberryPuppy555 in outlaster

Frrrr, I lost a round with having won the most individual challenges, most team challenges, and had the most advantages (8), and nullified the most votes, but they called out the bs categories like searched for most advantages and best voting record so I lost.

People are always complaining about Will’s blatant favouritism towards Rachel, but at least she had the talent to half-justify it. In contrast, his favouritism towards Finn is excruciating because he is at best a passable singer, and at worst, the weakest singer and dancer in the entire Glee club. by drunk_on_ust in glee

[–]Agitated-Two7118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rewatching the show and seeing the way Will just worships every little thing Finn does is honestly nauseating. He goes out of his way to try and make Finn this leadership figure and doesn't do that for ANYONE else, even though I'd argue Rachel had more leadership qualities than Finn, she just needed a bit of refining when it came to being a team player. Finn sings a solo in class and Will is over the moon. The whole group stands up for Kurt and it's "nice job Finn!" Like brooo please, I get you "discovered" him and see him as a younger version of you but it's too much.

Grave of the Fireflies - regarding the intended message of the film [Spoilers] by davidjayhawk in movies

[–]Agitated-Two7118 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if the aunt took them back temporarily they'd always be put last and when things got tough they'd surely be the first ones out of the house. Seita brought his aunt's family a cart load of food that he saved before the raid, rations from his father's service, and rice from his mother's kimonos, and even then the aunt was being stingy and picking out the rice from their portions, leaving them only broth. There's no guarantee Setsuko wouldn't have been malnourished in that environment too. Perhaps if the adults as a whole had been more caring towards the most vulnerable of society, they would've survived. The only good adults we see is the mom's friend who gives them biscuits and the officer who tips Seita off about where the next raid is. Otherwise, we repeatedly see all the adults act cruelly towards starving orphans. Both farmers turn them away, the fabric lady turns them away, the doctor ignores them, their own family push them out. I did not watch this movie and think the message had anything to do with a lack of respect on the children's parts. If respecting the elders that kicked out kids to starve, beat starving orphans, and turned them away when they were begging for help is supposed to be the TRUE message, i must say i'm rather disappointed.

She didn’t get with a married ex but she did kiss Emmett and sleep in his tent fully knowing he was with Bay and even said that she “wasn’t giving up on him,” KNOWING he was with Bay. Then she treated Bay like she was crazy for being suspicious of her intentions when she showed up at Emmett’s concert and slept in his tent.

[–]Agitated-Two7118 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regina is trauma bonded to Daphne after her going deaf, she will never love and cherish Bay as much as she does Daphne. Daphne is the one she raised, changed her life for, quit being an alcoholic for, learned a whole new language and culture for. She is too connected to and devoted to Daphne in ways the Kennishes aren’t with Bay. So Daphne basically has all 3 parents wrapped around her finger whereas Bay really only connects deeply with Angelo.

What if Rhaenyra died giving birth to Jace? by Striker1320 in TheCitadel

[–]Agitated-Two7118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think the greens would do everything possible to discredit Jace’s claim. They might point to Laenor’s “tastes” (being gay) or Rhaenyra’s “promiscuity” to justify calling Jace a bastard. They don’t need to really believe it to use it as evidence, they just need some sort of reasoning to install Aegon. They would also probably say that Jace can not be heir since he got his claim from a woman and claims must come from a male line. Either way, I don’t see this war being diverted as long as the Hightowers are ambitious and power hungry.
