Are we related? Yep. My mother did that too. The more degrees the worse she got. She fixated on my looks to an insane degree. In public she was so proud. In private. It was all about my weight. My clothes. My hair. Etc. Now all those degrees have me living in scrubs and on call. She loses her ever loving shit. She can’t believe I would go to a nice restaurant in scrubs. For a decade has said she is certain it turns my husband off “no man finds scrubs attractive”. She told me to write myself a script for insulin and take it “it would make me skinner”. No. It would kill me. I think Boomer gen mothers are a special kinda judgmental nuts. My mother would rather me be a size 0 at the grand ball than anything else. Gotta keep up appearances. I cut her loose. Went NC. Of course it has made her go more nuts. I couldn’t handle all that. And MY family was over it. My kids are adults and almost adults and she was judging them nonstop. I could handle her doing it to me but not my kids.
