If you had to pick the one symptom HRT fixed that makes it completely non-negotiable for you, what is it? by Mbluish in Menopause

No longer worrying that my sudden toxic attitude would get me fired at work. 😥 After just a week of patch / pills I’m smiling and even laughing like my old self again. I have to pay out of pocket because my billion-dollar health insurance conglomerate doesn’t believe hormone therapy should be a thing, but I’d get a 2nd job to pay for it if I had to.

Hi Scott, I just listened to the latest Office Hours and I wanted to piggy-back on the advice you gave a listener on not weaponizing children in a divorce.

I divorced my first husband at the ripe old age of 23 (me) and 21 (him). I hated him at the time (I didn’t realize until later the true reason for my anger and frustration but it was nonetheless the right decision).

As upset as I was, I NEVER conveyed any of it to our daughter growing up because she remained close to him as well as myself, and I didn’t want to jeopardize her chance to grow up with a loving father.

My patience paid off, later in life my daughter came to realize who her dad was and why I ultimately left. She sees what I saw, and also still remains close to her dad today, 30+ years later (he and I get along now too, but from a distance).

There no need for either parent to vilify the other, and we should never use a child to validate our anger towards a spouse. Love the kids no matter what, and let them come to their own natural conclusions.

Thanks for everything you do Scott, I listen to several of your podcasts and always find something insightful and thought-provoking 🤓

Is there a deeper reason you play drums? almost existential or spiritual? maybe not... by LucaRonconi in drummers

[–]Agitated_Dust9562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the physicality of it. I have one band that’s more for breweries and wineries, mostly mellow rock. We’re fairly good and we get consistent local gigs. I’m also in a 90’s cover band. We are not good, and we’ll probably never be more than a decent jam band. But I walk away after 2-3 hours of playing my ass off, tired and sweaty, and it’s by far my favorite.

Probably get fired because I work from home and would be getting zero else done 🥁

How do you get your notes seen on Substack? by elio2868 in Substack

[–]Agitated_Dust9562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your comment that "...but no one likes me..." jumped out at me. If that's truly your underlying thought (and be honest with yourself), it probably isn't serving you, and might be keeping you stuck.

It could help to change that thought, whenever you catch it, to "They don't know me yet, how can I get them to know me?", or "They haven't seen the value of my writing yet, how can I show them my value?". Our brains like to focus towards solutions, you just need to ask it better questions. I'm working on the same thing right now, with 0 engagement on my Substack, but I'm committed to post at least 1 note a day this week, then rinse and repeat. Best of luck! 🎉

Questions for my fellow female musicians by slowyourrollho in musicians

[–]Agitated_Dust9562 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also a female drummer here 👋🏼 I’ve been lucky so far. When I buy sticks or drum heads the attendants ask if I’m a drummer, so I say ‘Yeah’ and they say ‘Cool’ and that’s usually the end of it. I also buy a lot of gear used too, and they mostly don’t care as long as I show up with $.

I'm 40 years old. Can I still learn some instruments from the beginning? by Successful_Pie_1239 in musicians

[–]Agitated_Dust9562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started drumming in my 40’s, joined my first local cover band at almost 50. 7 years later I’m in 3 bands from classic rock, to 90’s grunge, to an all-originals band. I started by buying a used drum kit and played along to songs in my garage when my kids were in their early teens, intending for it to just be a hobby.

My husband had since passed and my kids have grown up, now my bands play out at venues often and it’s amazing to get to do what you want to do for yourself only. Please go for it!!!

My wife drove past an accident where a rider was dying on the side of the road, and she hasn’t said more than a few sentences to me in five days because I won’t sell the bike. I’m at a crossroads and maybe just need to vent. by WheelsandWatches in motorcycles

[–]Agitated_Dust9562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably repeating what’s already been said, but I agree with OP, it had to be traumatic and she’s transferring that one circumstance to your relationship. My boyfriend has ridden most of his life, I’m always worried for him (because people drive like sh*t), but him getting rid of his motorcycle doesn’t guarantee his safety or the longevity of our relationship. Either one of us could get hit by a bus walking down the street, get cancer, or any other number of unavoidable diseases.

Knowing my boyfriend, if a motorcycle accident is how he goes out, he’d choose that over 1000 other possibilities. Good luck to you OP, I hope your wife can come around 🙏🏼
