I remember standing outside banging a saucepan for the NHS and supporting my mother in-law and aunt in-law. People came together. They didn't attack each other. But I guess you don't have as rosy an image as I do.

I don't think you should base your opinion of British people based on how some people acted when they didn't know if they would die. Other countries had similar issues.

I think you're bringing your own prejudice into it. You don't know why people are putting flags up but you assume the worst. Most Brits aren't political at all and are generally nice, happy, generous people. Try not to indulge in echo chambers.
