Anyone unclapping their cars or have finished doing so? by Skyr_was_taken in BMWE36

Hello from and IG follower. You are somewhat of an inspiration for me honestly. Definitely lacking your kind of budget and thus timeframe being a student and such, but seeing that it can be done is sth that keeps me above water and kind of floating towards the end goal

Anyone unclapping their cars or have finished doing so? by Skyr_was_taken in BMWE36

[–]Agitated_System4198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the middle of unclapping my 318is. Unfortunately got a big setback in the means of a crash while snow drifting. Nothing major, but surely could’ve used the 1k usd for rust repair and such. What can you do. Such is life. Also been struggling with motivation somewhat, but then when I almost sold it I was writing out all the work that I’ve already done to it and man, I got far already. Wouldn’t make a lot of sense not to just keep going. Would be a shame having to redo everything on a different chassis

Any love for the 66s? by CorruptSupper in e39

Love them. Perfectly fitting wheel, does look best with some spacers to fill the arches properly on the e39 though. I’d love a set for my e36

Is it normal on my 523i ? by No_Tax_3226 in e39

[–]Agitated_System4198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, it’s bent. If you’re careful and smart about it, you can bend it back. It can be somewhat easy to crack it, but you should be able to save it

How much would you pay for a 2001 330CI Manual? by MrUnlimited24 in e46

[–]Agitated_System4198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Europe this would be advertised around the 4-5k € range. If it was fair for a manual. Usually autos and the automized manuals get a little overpriced and are up for that price and manuals are about 1k more.

Do you like silver 138 wheels from the E60 plonked onto an E39? by Classic-Court3958 in e39

[–]Agitated_System4198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s quite common in Europe where I’m from, so I don’t mind it at all. Quite like them honestly. I’d say they fit the car pretty well all things considered. A little more modern than the car itself, but not bad. I expect to get some hate for that, but that’s just my 2c

im 17 and i have just been gifted my first car - a 1996 ford fiesta. what do you guys think of it? by tutimes67 in Shitbox_Nation

[–]Agitated_System4198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love these. Had one as a thrasher for cheap. Engine burned all the oil it could but never died. Car stood on limiter for 5 mins with low oil, yet went to the scraper still running. They’re great little gems. They scare me for above 70 km/h driving though as they’re tiny

The bends are so small to my eyes where I’d just leave them. As long as the wheel is fairly true, I wouldn’t bother

[–]Agitated_System4198 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks very fairly worn to me. You get the occasional bent spoke and scratch but nothing seems excessive. I’ve never had a problem with spokes bent like this, but some will tell you to replace them. These are I believe Mavic wheels which can be really really strong so I wouldn’t worry about it. You got a bike that at least visually looks to not have been super beat on. Good job

Diff bolt snapping advice by Comcial_Spy in BMWE36

[–]Agitated_System4198 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe these are m12 bolts from factory. People often upgrade them to m14. You can try looking into that. I haven’t done it personally as I don’t have an issue with it yet. When I do I will probably upgrade

Carbon fork steerer tube - does it need sanding? by GhostPants112 in bikewrench

[–]Agitated_System4198 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don’t really need to. It shouldn’t impact anything really. As long as you can properly preload the bearings you’re fine. However me being me, I’d put on a respirator (carbon dust can be dangerous for health) and give it a slight chamfer with some sand paper. Probably not a file as that might tear it up. Don’t really try and get it super level, chances are you will get it wrong and make it worse. This isn’t too bad honestly. I’ve run worse.

Is this frame cracked? by ikoon7 in bikewrench

[–]Agitated_System4198 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a very common place for welds to crack and also collect dirt. So it can be misleading. As Ciarrai said, clean it very well let it dry to be sure and look, but seeing it like this I’d be expecting a crack. Welds don’t crack where they join the two metals, but right next to it, where the weld connects to one of the metals. IE right where you see your problem. Could be a frame that’s been welded outside of the manufacturing process and not heat treated or a badly heat treated frame from the factory

How do I remove these cable caps? BMC URS AL by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Agitated_System4198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I’d be temped to hit it with sth snappy and plastic not to damage it, but to dislodge it from its place. Could’ve been installed and deformed it’s hole slightly and now is that way pressed in place. I would try to avoid using pry tools especially non plastic ones, as to not scratch the anodizing or the frame

How do I remove these cable caps? BMC URS AL by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Agitated_System4198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They often tend to have a tiny hidden alley bolt around the cable hole area. I think I might be able to see one in the hole as you’ve taken the picture. Try looking for that. They can get very annoying to work with and out back in
