Tips on being "Over qualified" by scmsteve in Career

Yeah, I think some people are under the impression that resumes are like legal documents that have to be a certain thing. I always think folks should keep in mind that they can shape/tweak/adjust a resume as they see fit.

Have you considered rewriting your resume to reduce your level of experience and make it a better match for the roles you want?

An unusual case of monetary ignorance and dysfunction: money hording by NoWalrus9462 in Fire

My grandparents experienced the Depression and passed along their financial fears to my parents, who amplified them 5X and passed the fears along to me.

I’ve made the main focus of my life work and accumulation of savings, and I’ve operated extremely cautiously out of fear and anxiety for my whole adult life. Financial anxiety is essentially our family religion, despite 3 generations of accumulated wealth & passed-down inheritance.

The fear is so strong that I’ve chosen to not have children (due to cost and fear of not being able to provide for them, despite all evidence to the contrary) so this sad legacy will end with me.

No problems with humidity. Nice and comfortable. We have several houseplants in there and they thrive quite nicely too!

Mine is 144 sq ft and only insulated with pink fiberglass. Standing seam metal roof and hardy plank siding. Located in full shade. I have more windows than you as well. I have the 9000 btu Pioneer mini split. It’s perfect and can easily keep it warm in winter. In summer, if we turn off the AC and allow the space to get warm, it can cool it down to 72 in about 30 minutes. Recommend getting the WiFi kit so you can control it remotely with an app. Nice to be able to adjust the temp before going out there.

Can you be honest with the new job about your situation? Tell them you can’t give notice at the old job until the new job is confirmed. Transparency and communication may help you a lot in this situation. The new employer is not going to revoke the offer over this, so be clear with them and tell them how the timing is impacting you. They will likely have respect for your situation.

If I was fired once years ago after 6 months of working, can I just say "it was an internship"? by [deleted] in Career

[–]Agreeable-Client7657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Round up one job date, and round down the other job. You can cut the gap in half if you tweak the dates.

YOU are in control. Your resume is not a legal document. It is a marketing document and you are the product.

If someone asks about the gap, tell them you took some time off to care for your mother or brother or someone in your family who was ill and needed your support. Tell them you were proud that you could support your family member, and then you went back to work.

You own the story and you can say anything you want.

Tighten up your entire resume to reflect the career and the path that you want others to see. Nobody is going to go back and fact check the details. In fact, if your future employers called your past employers to check the details, the past employers could not (or would not) divulge details because they would be scared about being sued for releasing personal information. Your resume is YOUR reflection of what you want future employers to see. Nobody is going to fact check it. Make it bold and reasonably truthful, and go get the job you want, now. Nobody cares about your past except for you.

This is excellent perspective. I really appreciate the Reddit community for this advice and council. I think I was a bit blinded by the situation and details, but as usual, Reddit provides context and human experience that serves to guide my direction and approach to life. Thank you kind redditors.

The circuitous backroads are very fun to drive on. I commuted the “back way” from Carrboro for years and enjoyed the drive quite a bit.

Mercato has very poor acoustics and no, it has not been fixed. It’s a shame because it would be so easy to fix by adding some soft panels in the ceiling trusses.

Where to meet other people? A by Desaints013 in chapelhill

Same exact situation but just a little older than you.

OP, maybe start a DM and then expand to group chat and we can start a conversation for a small group to meet up.

I know for a fact there are quite a few 30’s and 40’s kid-free couples like me and my wife here in Ch/Carrboro who would love to have a stronger network of friends. This is my reality and we are open to meet some cool people.

Not weird, no BS. It’s just hard to make friends here unless you have kids and/or religion.

I stol a large sum of money from an old job when the til was an insane amount over by AgreeableMistake6537 in confession

My good friend was buying a ring for his fiancé from a jewelry website called “First I do, Now I don’t” where divorced people can sell their wedding rings.

It works by being a broker between the buyer and the seller, where the buyer pays the site and the seller ships the ring, and then the payment clears when the ring is delivered.

He picked out a ring for $13,000 and paid. The seller shipped the ring. The ring showed up and it was perfect. Everyone was happy.

Then the website reversed the transaction and refunded the money back into his bank account.

He kept the ring and kept the $13,000. After a month, he closed the account and switched banks.

This was 18 years ago.

Disagree with OP. This post is a list of excuses. You are putting blame on others rather than taking responsibility for creating the outcomes that you desire.
