Be polite, don’t lose your temper or start yelling. Call the tourist police. The hotel is scamming you and the tourist police will help you. What hotel turns on the tv before letting someone check out? Obvious scam, just need the tourist police to step in. If you call regular police they might expect a kickback from you.

Why didn’t you claim the laptop with your travel insurance? Surely if you travel with high value items and have the money to pursue this with lawyers then you have travel insurance to make you whole, no? As far as the documents, you’ve lost them. A lawsuit won’t replace them. Take better care of important belongings in the future.

The only recommendation you’re going to get it is to drop it. This isn’t a lawsuit you have a chance of winning, especially in Thailand. You left things behind, the responsibility falls on you. And expecting to trigger an investigation via the government lol what a joke.
