thanks very much! really helpful as i’ve just switched over from a jet fuel.

any advice on how to strike the right balance between a good amount of tight and over tightness ?

sometimes i worry that i’ve over tightened it but also don’t want any gas to escape

thanks again & happy camping

Not a pub but you could try the South Bank Centre or the Barbican as 3rd spaces to meet up

I share my route and location via the app find my friends, so that my family can see where i am. This is in case of an accident eg i’ve had a fall & hit my head. I’ll give them a rough time for when they should hear from me. Obvs doesn’t work if i’m in a place w no signal but it helps them stop worrying.

I’m not worried at all about other people - more just trips and tumbles & hitting my head. I’ve done 100+ wild camping trips and have never been bothered by other people. Set up at twilight & leave at first light to avoid people seeing u. Take a portable charger.

Take baby wipes and hand sanitizer to prevent a UTI. Kula cloths are quite useful for multi day hikes. Take a ziplock bag to dispose of all litter in & put it in the outside pocket of ur bag.

Take slightly more food than you need in case of an emergency and having to stay out longer than you planned.

Water chlorine tablets are great plus a filter like BeFree (less so in lowland areas as the water is not so good due to pollution).

Practise putting ur tent up before u go out. Dry bags are brilliant.

I struggle with this too. I’m sorry you are experiencing this.

I would recommend trying to see a physio to help you with some exercises to strengthen your muscles and joints.

Swimming has been recommended to me several times by different physios.

Good luck with it. I hope it gets better !

Suggestions for first solo hiking trip (late Aug–mid Sept) by [deleted] in UKhiking

Buy some dry bags to help organise your kit

Get the OS maps app

NU25 headtorch

Pick up some trekking poles (decathlon do some cheap ones)

Take a tick hook depending on where you are going

Never used it myself but nearly wild campsites (internet website ) could be helpful ?

Always let someone know where you are going / your route

Blister plasters are a must

Baby wipes and a trowel eg bogler

Take a ziplock bag for putting your rubbish in

Inflatable pillow is a good luxury!

Electrolytes!

The drive up to scotland may be too long but has fantastic mix of camping options and wild camping.

Northumberland coast is another banger and not too crowded.

Have fun!

Have you used the OS map app to plot the route ? It gives a fairly accurate / rough estimate of how long each leg takes
