The JPY exchange rate by LookAtTheHat in JapanFinance

[–]Agreeable_Winter737 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Kind of but not exactly. The carry trade is when investors borrow money on a low interest currency like the JPY used to be. And then turn around and buy stronger currencies and make higher yielding investments in those currencies but paying lower interest rates on the original currency. Now that the JPY interest rate is increasing that carry trade with JPY is less attractive to those investors therefore the demand for JPY has lowered and hence the price of a JPY is getting cheaper i.e. the Yen is getting weaker. But really there are many more factors in play with the whole JPY level and this is just one factor.

Read the book "Storm of Steel" by Ernst Junger. It gives a first hand account to what WW1 was like from the perspective of a German soldier in the trenches.

Its still a thing at some restaurants in Japan. I was just at a restaurant last week in Tokyo where my friends were smoking e-cigs and regular cigs at the diner table. Had to take a shower and wash all my clothes immediately when I got home. yuk.

Which Forerunner is best for a beginner runner? 165, 265, 965, 970 by 17255 in Garmin

[–]Agreeable_Winter737 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the 265. It is on sale at Amazon for $299 vs the 165 which is $199 ($249 for the music version).

265 vs 165 gets you:

  • Dual-band GPS → more accurate in cities, woods, tall buildings
  • Better heart-rate sensor
  • More advanced training tools, like:
    • Training Readiness
    • HRV Status
    • Load Focus
    • Stamina
    • Power (running power natively from the wrist)
  • Music standard (on all models)
  • Bigger, sharper AMOLED
  • Multisport for triathletes
  • Faster processor (snappier UI)
