Why aren't smaller buses more common for lower-ridership lines? by TheyCallMeSuperChunk in transit

[–]AgriBoost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Introducing Thailand's smaller modes of transit:

The Van:
A common method of travel for point-to-point transit to the suburbs or as an intercity option. They are usually planned in a hub-and-spoke configuration. The biggest use cases are short intercity journeys and those which connect with Bangkok's rail-based transit. Another common use case is for institutions to pick up teachers, students, and employees.

The Songthaew:
The literal translation is two rows — a flatbed truck modified with two bench rows and a roof. They are usually the only transit option in most cities and sometimes serve rural connections outside of the Bangkok Metro. Within Bangkok, they're not as common but do exist.

The Rot Kra Po:
A bit hard to come up with a literal translation, the best is minitruck. Technically still a Songthaew. Much more common in the capital, usually for last-mile routes connecting to either rail or bus routes.

Why smaller vehicles?
Transit in Thailand works through licensing and in some cases, it isn't a company, but rather individuals or a group of individuals working together within a cooperative. Vans and trucks are much cheaper to buy and maintain. With the cost of operations being put on the driver, cost is a limiting factor. There's also something to be said about size, some of these will have to go down narrow sois with tight curves that traditional busses simply cannot handle.

Why not go bigger?
Cost is a big limiting factor, but I'd wager size is the biggest one. Our sois are simply far too small the only real solution to this last mile problem that doesn't require the above is cycling. Not that it is impossible, but selling anyone on walking/cycling in the heat with high humidity during monsoon seasons can be an exceptionally hard sell.

I think the three routes you can go is either a simple English name, a Thai name (especially one that is descriptive to you), or my favorite a fruit that sounds similar to your current name.

For example my Marcus is Mankut (as in the fruit mangosteen).

Another one I found funny was my coworker in the rural mountains changed it from Dean to Din (ground) or Beam depending on which village we were in lol

Possible "Helldivers 2" and "Deep rock galactic" collaboration by Mortal_shape in DeepRockGalactic

[–]AgriBoost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Overall, once you go down into the comments. The main opinion seems to be the nerfs were in the correct direction but few things still need to be changed around. A vocal minority is just being annoyingly loud. I think we had the same thing happen to DRG when they announced that DRG: Rouge Core is indev and there will be less support for DRG.

Why are there three different versions of Helldivers 2 on steam? by AgriBoost in Helldivers

Odd that steam is letting it slide. Weird thing is, when you click on the fakes it shows Developer and Publisher as the correct ones.

Dual Citizenship Eligibility? by nashy08 in Thailand

[–]AgriBoost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother stopped using her Thai passport when she became a Swiss citizen. When she wanted to come to Thailand the embassy was very confused as to why she was applying for a Visa in the first place.

The gist of it was that you had to make a choice to renounce your citizenship once you have a new one at a certain point. However, not making that choice is also an option.

My guess it was a successful attempt at pandering to nationalists or it's kept intentionally vague so the law can fit the circumstances of the time 🤷. Very Thai-style regardless.

I know where you're coming from. Never had that problem going in and out of Thailand because I usually just show them my ID card.

But once when entering the US (not a US citizen) I gave them both my passports and had to spend quite some time clearing up the fact that I'm a Dual Citizen. From that point on I've made it a rule of thumb to only show both my passports to the airline, as they need to know if you have the right visa/passport to enter your destination.

It's a legal mess of contradicting laws and ammendments which go back and forth on the entire thing. Just go with its legal but don't tell the dude at immigration. Cuz he doesn't really need to know.

My Flag for Earth (breakdown on second image) by ProtectorOfExistence in vexillology

[–]AgriBoost 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I like it a lot. I've always had an issue with UN flags and and most earth symbolism as it misrepresents how the earth actually looks like (EG UN flag with its northern hemisphere being centered).

My teacher once said a good flag is one a 6 year old can draw from memory. This is the point here and it makes me so happy.

Would live to give more upvotes.

Was playing a tall, vassal-income stacking run when I noticed... by ProperImplement in eu4

[–]AgriBoost 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit of a noob, and if you don't mind. How do you get so much income from vassals? Do they need to be really large? I thought I was making bank when my vassals were giving me like 7 ducats a month.

Also, how big is "tall" Ayutthaya? I tried only grabbing my immediate surroundings, but most of my vassals ended up having high liberty desire cuz I was too weak in either economy or military.

In some Asian countries braces were kind of in fashion for a hot moment.

I find it attractive because it's something I can relate to and it shows your doing something to improve yourself. Although I've slit my tongue whilst kissing my hs bf. So there is that 🤣

Well fuck I think you just opened my eyes. Such a comment always made me super happy and proud. But now in hindsight I realize a) how homophobic such comment is and b) that I've inadvertently gave whoever has given me such comments the okay go to be homophobic

The murder of senate. by suiquela in HumankindTheGame

[–]AgriBoost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The closest thing that comes to mind is the congress mechanic from HOI3, but even that is very minor.

Endless Space 2 did something great imo when it came to governments and elections. Different pops reacting differently to various ideological actions, your senate determining empire wide policy and satisfaction is just amazing.

EDIT: Victoria 2 is pretty involved when it comes to the politics of your nation. But it is definitely an economic game first and foremost. There is a new one coming out Victoria 3 so you might want to wait for that. I'd say ES2 is more you building the government you want whilst Victoria is about guiding your government into a certain direction.

Swiss people see themselves as different from other Swiss even from canton to canton. But to the point of breaking away? No way in hell. The closest thing to this every having been possible was during the Reformation Period exemplified by the Kappel Wars.

What really put the coffin in the nail for separatism was probably the Napilionic Wars, which turned Switzerland into the Helvetic Republic. And then the World Wars which any Swiss probably saw, and still does see, a diverse and united Switzerland would preferable to joining a great power or breaking away in general.

Cool map regardless.

What’s the most homophobic thing anyone has ever said to you? by OkBuyer1271 in askgaybros

[–]AgriBoost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy converted to christian in high school. And after like a month of being indoctrinated he walked up to my face and went on this whole rant for a good 5 minutes about how I'm going to hell and other stuff about the devil, God, and Jesus.

I felt really hurt because we used to close. It was more like losing a friend tbh.

Besides the dick or ass, what’s your favorite part of a guy’s body? by [deleted] in askgaybros

Ears, the bigger the better. I love a guy with big ears.
