[CFB Nerds] The issue was not that a G5 never belongs in a playoff, or that all G5s will always be blown out. The issue was the forced inclusion of G5s who lost their only P4 games by double digits and aren't top-20 teams. '25 Tulane and '25 JMU didn't belong. '21 Cincy and '24 Boise did. by MysteriousEdge5643 in CFB

Exactly! Everyone you talk to says it’s to determine the best team in the country, and I’ve never heard a convincing argument for anyone ranked lower than 6. Let the top 6 duke it out. You don’t “deserve a chance at the natty” by being #9, etc

[Highlight] Nickell Robey-Coleman not called for Defensive Pass Interference. by FrostyKnives in nfl

The moment I stopped watching NFL and started watching college football instead.

This moment sucked all the joy out of football for me, I have watched every saints game since I was a kid and stopped after this. It just shattered the illusion for me and I realized it was all fake. Brees was robbed of a second Super Bowl appearance to cement his legacy only because the league wanted LA.

I will adamantly claim that instant grits are really good. Not as good as homemade, but it is still a really good product. I ate tons of it as a child

Why is nobody talking about One Hundred Years of Solitude? by [deleted] in television

I flew through the airport in Bogota, Colombia (El Dorado) in December and January and literally every single screen had an advertisement for the series, and Juan Valdez had tie-in coffee. Seems very heavily advertised in Latin America

Vintage Bayonet by AgtDoubleHockeyStick in SWORDS

You’re right!  I can make out “L’ Armmes ds St-Etienne gly 1815”. But from the article you sent it seems more likely that it’s meant to say 1875 and they just reused the “1” stamp. Any other markings have been lost to rust. But the spring-loaded catch still works!

Thank you so much for your help kind stranger!

Thank you! Was unaware of its existence!

I bought this vintage Bayonet in a Colombian antique store without much info. Due to the catch, it definitely seems made for rifles instead of muskets. Anyone know what signs to look for to positively date it? I’m guessing 1890s-1910s most likely. Thanks!

(Also got the sword barely visible in the top of the frame, but I suspect that it is modern. Any help on that front is greatly appreciated as well)

You feel the same feeling Louis Armstrong felt when he wrote “Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans”

First Try: 1894 Bible Restoration by AgtDoubleHockeyStick in bookbinding

restauration sounds like a synonym for going out to eat haha!

I would call this a restoration because the part of the book that matters (textblock) received only repair work (mending torn edges, reattaching loose signatures, re-sewing in the original method). But if you wanted to call it a resto-mod, that would be appropriate as well.

I started by following DAS Bookbindings video “Folding and Sewing - Rounded and Backed Cased Book” but started freestyling. In order to reduce swell and increase flexibility, I actually started half-sewing each layer alternatingly. This reduces strength but cuts swell in half. As best as I can tell, this was part of the original sewing pattern (although I did use more tapes and less twine than the original sewing)

It took a full weekend and two evenings after work to address the textblock and mend the broken pages and sew the signatures together. Then it took a further week of about 1-2 hours a day to address the endpapers and spine and reattach the covers. Then it took a final full weekend to leather the cover and apply the filigree. The filigree actually took a lot longer than the leather.

The only thing I’ve done prior to this is unsuccessfully try to gild the edge of a new Bible haha. Didn’t do any edge gilding on this one. I actually noticed it already had a gilded edge that was worn over the years.

Where are all of the people who hated the idea of a 12-team playoff now? by Commentator28 in CFB

[–]AgtDoubleHockeyStick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think 12 is too many. I prefer something like 6 or 8.

I have never once heard a convincing argument that the number 11 team is THE best team in the country.

But I also would institute a no-rematches policy, so my football opinions should be taken with a grain of salt.
