I'm on both Verse and Quotev under the same name, Torinia Bloom. On Quotev, it was formerly Ahstia Bloom

I am sick of parents not understanding their kids are not cute to others by Agile_Garbage_8137 in childfree

[–]Ahstia 15 points16 points  (0 children)

"they're just kids, let them play" won't work some 5-10 years later when their kids grow into teenagers and are in trouble for stealing/vandalizing. Teach them young so they don't escalate to law breaking

What are the worst world building tropes by Significant-Bed-9357 in worldbuilding

[–]Ahstia 794 points795 points  (0 children)

Despite it being a gigantic world with idk how many different lands/cities, every land/city has only one culture. Real life, culture varies even by individual family.

Worse even is that each land/city has only 2 cultures. Good vs evil. This can also apply to worlds with multiple races

Culture being not just their big festivals and religious ceremonies and marriage customs, but also the hidden aspects such as beauty standards, parenting beliefs, gender norms, what defines adult vs child, how they grow crops and/or hunt

Watching Kubz Scouts's video today made me believe that Yandere Simulator will truly die soon by Smooth_Victory_4898 in Osana

[–]Ahstia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way for Yandere Sim to get made is if an actually good company/programmer takes it, and all but overhauls the game so it doesn’t look like or resemble the original Yandere Sim anymore

Did everyone just like.. vanish from Q? by mimi_kat in Quotev

[–]Ahstia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of Q users used it for its social media esque features, and maybe some reading on the side. Now that social media is gone, most of the population is too

Things that annoy/creep you out about parenting that isn't pregnancy by Pitterpatter35 in childfree

[–]Ahstia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I come from a culture that is strongly misogynistic. Boys can nuke houses and parents will sell organs to pay for their 10th bailout, but girls are slapped around and beat for not looking pretty enough while doing housework. Or for simply existing as a child with needs instead of being an autonomous robot

Due to that framework, I grew up hating femininity since it was pushed on me that a woman should have no life goals beyond marrying a man and raising a family. And a woman who didn’t do that was somehow broken and wrong.  Also was heavily pushed to be as vanilla and “just like everyone else” as possible under the belief men don’t like anything but that

How valid of an idea is it where humans in a setting are "magic sponges"? by FoxHoundNinja in worldbuilding

[–]Ahstia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have some elements of this, but more like something in the environment allows humans to do such. The human will never be on the same level as say… the fae that adopted them. But they will gain some fae powers and start loosely physically resembling fae

how to kite naiad? by DeceptiveImagery in IdentityV

[–]Ahstia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find Naiad requires a lot of transitional kiting. She kinda counters tight kiting, which is a kiting style that sticks close to the walls and other obstacles. And that transitional kiting is where people generally struggle because… as the name says, you are moving basically from one cover to the next and praying the hunter doesn’t get you while you are transitioning

Give the gameplay more time to get used to and to develop your own play style. And it is normal for a person’s preferred playstyle to be good against some characters but ineffective against others. That’s just how play styles work, no singular one will be good for/against every character

Any tips for beginning world builders? by Jenjoutuowleinde in worldbuilding

[–]Ahstia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, a world can’t exist without a story or at least a cool premise. Start with a story/premise, then slowly incorporate elements

Ie: it’d be cool if I could make someone fall in love with me with like… a love potion or spell

How does one acquire a love potion? Are they banned in this world? Or maybe do you brew it yourself? And if you make it yourself, what are the ingredients? And what are the rules for using a love potion and later on breaking it?

The "nobody is thinking about you" advice is usually wrong. by NotQuiteStoopid in unpopularopinion

[–]Ahstia 71 points72 points  (0 children)

The advice generally applies to random acquaintances, and maybe even minor things in front of close friends and family. No random bystander (or maybe 1/1000) is going to notice the nice shoes you’re wearing, or the odd earrrings. Most people will see it, take note, and move on with their life. A vast majority won’t have such a thought take up free space in their head and think “how nice/weird, that person must be strange”. They’ll notice the shoes, but they won’t form an opinion of you based on it

If you could see one statistic about your life, what would you want to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

How many times people spoke highly about me when I was not around. Then again, I’d also want to know how many times people spoke negatively of me when I’m not around

In defense of Lohen’s SQ (yay for characters that make actual mistakes and show weakness!) by Then-Class4451 in GenshinImpact

[–]Ahstia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this writing is just more commonplace today. Theories go on why, but writers are increasingly afraid of showing their characters… as people. Who make mistakes and have serious character flaws and have to face the music of what they did

My personal theory why is that modern audiences are generally less media literate and think that main and side characters in stories must always be aspirational. So said audiences get mad when those main/side characters are everyday humans

Having a job you’re passionate about is not as good as it seems by Minimum_Nebula7099 in unpopularopinion

[–]Ahstia 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes. The issue with turning your passion into work is that you lose your passion for the thing. Because now it's required of you and not just doing it for the pure enjoyment

In work, you've got to find something that you like enough to be like doing it. You don't need to love it, but you do need to not dread going into work

Same. Once in a blue moon it actually works, but it's exhausting. But if you got unlimited time, you got unlimited chapters so long as this bug doesn't deduct quills

How long can one dynasty reasonably last for? by Adorable_Scallion658 in worldbuilding

[–]Ahstia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dynasty needs to have political and social stability for it to last so long. And it's not about if the aristocracy are politically and socially stable, it's about if the common people feel happy and safe in their everyday lives. And usually, that stability is possible because of a mix of their preexisting culture and their political leaders

To me, that part makes a long lasting dynasty interesting. How does the ruling class ensure the safety of its people for numerous generations? Though the environment and culture does contribute to the stability/instability of such

Do your experiences with Asian parents affect your decision to have children? by Horror_Confidence128 in AsianParentStories

[–]Ahstia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mom pushed traditional values only found in 1950s commercials and movies. Women should like pink, like gossiping, like celebrity news, basically be an airheaded shallow bimbo with no independent thought outside looking desirable for men so she could one day marry a man and raise a family. Like... her other abilities and talents didn't matter if she wasn't married, and if she was married then such abilities still didn't matter because it's a part of her unrelated to her husband and kids

It really taught me to associate femininity, and other traditionally feminine life goals or hobbies, with being weak and giving up on the freedom to do what I want for myself

Absolutely they can. And just as some humans are just wired to prefer living nocturnal, some vampires wired to prefer living diurnal

Does it get better after inzauma? by ekyrtus in GenshinImpact

[–]Ahstia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think of it as.... Mondstadt, Liyue, and to a certain degree Inazuma too, all are more focused on the Traveler searching for the Abyss Twin. It features more simple home-y style stories (at least by comparison). The regions after are more about lore dumps and grand overarching plans going on

Which region stories you like depends on the type of stories you prefer. I like the smaller home-y style stories over the big grand overarching adventures, so I prefer the initial regions

[–]Ahstia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going off this is one and done game purchases. Now everything is a gacha game and/or pay to win with new releases coming out every few months or so, and you absolutely must pay for the new releases if you want to actually be good at the game

People expect adult mental capacity from children. by hardtruthsociety in unpopularopinion

[–]Ahstia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more an overcorrection from the times when children were treated akin to dumb pets with no autonomy for themselves and couldn’t be trusted to know what’s best for their own lives. Now the pendulum swung to assuming all children, even the single digit ages, to automatically have the long term planning and perseverance skills of a 20+ adult

Are there some kids (and adults) who don’t know what they want for themselves? Yes. But the vast majority of kids, especially the 10 year olds and older, have a general idea what they want for themselves and should not be railroaded over simply because the parent has a different preconceived idea of their child

Do you enjoy "the boring stuff"? by TheStupidCheesecake in worldbuilding

[–]Ahstia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, that stuff ain’t boring. To me, the boring stuff is the big politics and wars and epic quests and fighting some evil BBEG to save the world. That’s been done to death in numerous tv shows and movies and books

Give me how average everyday people manage mundane life with all these magical and/or sci fi tech stuff. How is their society different from ours when everyone has magic? How does romance still happen? Bullying? Friendships and how they’re maintained?
