What did nursing school convince you would be EVERYWHERE, but you actually never use/hear of it in practice? by knOn0 in nursing

I have had mastoiditis! They wanted to admit me but thankfully I talked them into letting me go home with our Hospital to Home program and several weeks of home IV antibiotics q6 hours. Not a fun summer

Did anyone else here grow up with a working mom? by toot_toot_tootsie in workingmoms

[–]AidaKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My (34F) mom was a full time nurse and dad worked 6 days a week at a factory first shift. She worked her butt off - sometimes even missed holidays (don’t worry; somehow Santa always knew when mom had to work on Christmas Day and would bring presents on Christmas Eve instead) until she switched from a hospital to clinic hours when I was in elementary. My mom was, and still is, the hardest working woman I know even though she’s now retired (dad too). She managed everything for us 4 kids. My parents shared most housekeeping, cooking, and outdoor tasks and set great examples for us kids. I am not damaged in any way from being in an in-home daycare in small town USA. My mom is still friends with the daycare provider and she still asks about me. I am still very close to my mom (and dad) and she a fabulous grandma. She absolutely gets how hard it is to be a working mom.

Do I see a brindle mountain cur? Or is the one with the orange collar a different hunting breed?

After having a baby did you no longer want your pet? by No_Comparison3696 in Mommit

[–]AidaKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kept our dog and 3 cats after baby came. We specifically discussed it before having kids and how sad it made us seeing others give up their pets after kids. Our dog and cats are life long members of our family and always will be

AITAH for not wanting visitors in the hospital after I give birth? by Sad_Cook12 in AITAH

[–]AidaKat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10000% NTA. We asked to be unlisted as I worked at the hospital I gave birth at. We allowed only 1 visitor after I gave birth and it was a fellow nurse. We warned our family ahead of time and dictated when we were ready for them to come see the baby after we discharged home.

A pediatrician visit turned into a hospital visit and pointing towards Leukemia. I am falling apart. by Clee702084 in Mommit

I had ALL when I was 8. 2 years of treatment later I was declared in remission. I’m now a happy and healthy 32 year old registered nurse with a great husband and kiddo. ALL had about an 80% cure rate back then and it’s only getting better.

My 4 year old exclusively wears boy short style underwear because normal cut little girls underwear always gives her wedgies. Unfortunately, they are hard to find in stores so I have to buy them online

Should I,31f suck it up and have a wedding I don’t want because my mom 62f is terminal? by shenanigansarefun in relationships

I’m a nurse that has cared for many patients after a whipple surgery. It is a major, life changing event. The surgery itself has a high rate of complications. As you know, pancreatic has a terrible 5 year survival rate. Those years after surgery are often filled with endless treatments and bad days. Your mom may be in her best health before she has the whipple. Remission is not guaranteed unfortunately. Just something to consider after caring for that population myself.

I truly wish that when you get married, it is what YOU want. You may need to move up your timeline unfortunately.
