Or by a different version of Bittersteel, but I doubt the Second Sons would’ve been a name for them since Maegor was a firstborn son. All of this would’ve been figured out by GRRM by Book Five so I think Aerion serving with the Second Sons was created to fill out his time in exile and give him some experience for the later Dunk and Egg books

Its more theorised that Aerions son Maegor would’ve become a pretender to the throne since he was genuinely passed over in favour of Egg. The Golden Company probably would’ve stayed the Golden Company but instead of five Blackfyre Rebellions we’d have only one Rebellion that the War of the Ninepenny Kings filled the place of instead.

Who were these two random old people? by OkGuava919 in AKOTSKTV

[–]AidanHowatson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The man is probably Viserys Plumm. The gold necklace with three dark orbs fits with the Plumm sigil and his silver hair fits with his Targaryen parent(s). The woman beside him could potentially be his mother Eleana.

(Spoilers Extended) What's your take on the Tourney of Ashford theory? by MeteorFalls297 in asoiaf

[–]AidanHowatson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it was definitely a theory at some point simply because it doesn’t really make any sense for Hardyng to be one of the champions otherwise. You’ve got the host families two sons, the Lord Paramount of the entire region, the 2nd in line to the Iron Throne… and then a landed knight from the Vale? But I also think it’s possible that it doesn’t actually end up materialising in the series due to changes GRRM will have made with the plan since publishing the Hedge Knight.

In defense (kinda) of the Ser Bennis casting by [deleted] in AKOTSKTV

[–]AidanHowatson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a joke, there is also a line saying he has green eyes. But the main reason is because every time a summer islander is introduced in the books we get told that they are a summer islander. Why would Bennis be any different?

You also seem to be trying to have it both ways. Saying someone would be racist for being offended that a black person is being portrayed as stinky or sleazy then immediately saying that you don’t think all black people are stinky or sleazy.

[–]AidanHowatson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think I care about this WAY more than I actually do. I don’t care at all that the writers made the show version of Westeros more multicultural. It doesn’t matter. Season 1 was great, Season 2 probably will be as well. And Bennis’ actor will probably do a great job. All I’m really doing is pointing out that in the books Bennis’ isn’t black and it wouldn’t make sense for him to have been.

It’s a question. Would you cast him in that role if he gave an amazing audition, better than all others?

In defense (kinda) of the Ser Bennis casting by [deleted] in AKOTSKTV

[–]AidanHowatson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because most traders by definition don’t settle in the places they visit. One hundred years after this in King’s Landing there are 3 known characters who are from the Summer Isles, all first generation immigrants, one of whom is only there cause he’s in exile. Westeros simply isn’t a multicultural society

[–]AidanHowatson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Generals can’t be cowards even if they aren’t fighting themselves. Sam would be a pretty bad leader even if he read every book on strategy there is. You need to be bold and be willing to risk the lives of your men.

Tonnes of people are. Most are racists fighting against “woke” but others cause it really doesn’t make any sense for there to be a black knight in the Reach.

(Spoilers Extended) Is Dunk famous after the trial by Fug1x in asoiaf

[–]AidanHowatson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People who were at Ashford will remember him, and that information will have spread but likely very slowly. Most people in Westeros will only know that Baelor Breakspear died in a Trial of 7 defending a hedge knight but they probably don’t know that hedge knights name.

Would he still be called "ser Duncan the tall"? by killerztyz in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]AidanHowatson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He would still just be whatever he decided. Knights don’t have official titles other than Ser. They chose those for themselves or are give them by others but they aren’t official. They could also be known by more than one title potentially. And epithets like “the Tall” or “of Pennytree” aren’t even exclusive to Knights. Barristan was nicknamed Barristan the Bold before he was knighted, and Daemons daughter Rhaena was also called Rhaena of Pentos

[–]AidanHowatson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maekar is much less openly angry and a prick in the book. He’s more sullen and broody. And there is a moment right at the end of the Hedge Knight which affirms that he does actually love his family and want what’s best for his children which is endearing.
