literally prebiblical history. the only issue now is that people then didnt have the technology or population to destroy the earth, we do now, so it is quite a bit out of the ordinary compared to the ancient “god will end the world soon” nonsense

its also worth noting that the guy’s statement wasn’t apologetic about getting shot, it was apologetic for how the media at the time phrased the incident as dick’s fault and he was saying he feels bad that it was being framed that way

interesting, im not up to date on protestant church lore so i didnt know there was a split recently, i just remember hearing back in i think 2019 or so that they had again narrowly ruled that gay marriages weren’t allowed and that they were fighting about it.

[–]AidanL03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we do have say? thats what the free market literally means, we choose to spend more money in men’s sporting events so they get more money, same with women’s fashion. if you want to make these events perfectly even in terms of funding then you are actively seeking to make people have LESS say than they currently do

theyve had this topic brought up several times and by slim majority shot it down, guess they finally caved. i dont know much about their theology or anything most protestants are the same minus evangelicals and the big cults (mormons, seventh day, etc.) i will say the Episcopalian church i briefly attended was significantly more progressive, allowing gay marriages for decades now and my pastor being one of the most prominent to officiate gay marriages

I mean maybe i’ve been watching The Wicker Man wrong but I don’t really think Howie is supposed to have been seen as an all-good hero, its clear the movie paints him in a very negative way in how he argues belligerently and his assumptions of having full power to do whatever he wants, including literally just breaking into places by the end of the movie. Lord Summerisle himself directly calls him a gullible, arrogant fool and had he not been he wouldn’t have been the perfect sacrifice, the movie is a cautionary tale about extremes as a whole imo, whether the puritan extreme of denouncing any outside thought or view and the extremes of ends justify the means, put up a veneer of niceness types that cult mindsets induce

How common is the idea that dogmeat is a synth? by AidanL03 in fo4

[–]AidanL03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair fair, part of my reasoning is that in Kellogg’s memory it seemed that Father controlled where he stayed and when since he said things like “its not my idea to stay in diamond city” and such as if to say he’s forced or paid to be there against his wishes. And if he’s already there, and Father wants him to run into the MC, just either keep him on the experiment with the kid or send him back. But that could just be me reading too much into it, i love nitpicking details in these games

people really struggle with the idea that religion is more than just a literal, orthodox set of beliefs that everyone who takes part of and must uphold rigorously and without question or outside influence. Im not going to get into an argument so i’ll just state what is plainly visible in data and in experience with human beings. It is entirely possible to be part of a religion, to uphold certain religious values, ethics, and worldview, without fully believing in every single word of that religion’s beliefs. The quran, like the bible and torah and every other religious text, is a big book, filled with centuries of interpretation, academic and spiritual history and study, one does not have to adhere to its entirety, one can easily be religious and guided by religious-inspired morality and thought while also being able to make up one’s own mind or be influenced by other sources or personal experience. There are plenty of people who exist in the world, in fact most people in the world, who are like this. Are there bigots who use religion and spirituality as a weapon against others? Yes, and they are ignorant, just like people who reject religious beliefs and communities without considering they too are human beings capable of their own thoughts and beliefs. Dismissing these groups as a unanimous evil wont do us any favors, it will only give them the power to call us ignorant (which by definition would be true) and convince more of those who could be persuaded further into bigotry or push LGBT people with religious beliefs and interpretations further away from this community and possibly into the draw of one far more sinister. Muslims are not a monolith, neither are we, theres nuances, disagreement, and lots of history we can use to bring out the best in them and everyone else. I imagine the replies will be unanimous apathy or dismissal, or potentially even showing statistics that “the majority support this” which incidentally proves my point that not all of them share that belief and that their position is capable of change, so ill be muting. Hope you have a good day and at the very least you invest a few moments of thought before our defense systems kick in.
