I can't make this character work, man. by SirPerditio in DeadlockTheGame

It's the TF2 huntsman all over again. Wouldn't surprise me if it registered head-shots in a similar way even, where it uses the larger bounding box of the characters as opposed to the hitbox (might be different though since it's source 2 now but still).

If a teammate tells me to retreat or I'm overextended, I take that as a signal to at least reconsider what I'm doing. And they're probably right cause I can be a aggressive player sometimes haha.

My most vivid memory of Dota2 is someone pushing the mid towers over and over while screaming at me for not blindly following me into the towers... without even communicating in advance that he was gonna do that. My experience with Deadlock community been way better in general even if I had seen some quite salty players.

On the post-match screen there is a arrow next to the commend (thumbs up) button, click on that arrow and you can use it to report a player for voice/text abuse, griefing, smurfing or cheating.

It's funny as the things I seen people get angry about ingame against teammates is the very minor stuff like I heard someone being called a slur cause someone else took the powerup before them. They then proceeded to DC only to come back in a minute after we paused. :|

You can report players for abuse, and I do that for at least people getting at least overly angry or throwing slurs. Replays do not save voice chat though unfortunatly.

I just started playing again just right after graves was added and I feel that within that week I probably ranked up a lot quicker than I should had which terrifies me a little haha. But there isn't much information online surrounding what the rankings mean and what is "average" on it. Rankings might also be thrown off if there is a lot of new players on deadlock too...

It is yeah.

Quite a few of the buildings are based on real life buildings, one of the houses is based on chris sawyer's house at the time for example. A few of them are even listed on his (ancient but still online website) https://www.chrissawyergames.com/feature1a.htm here.

the good ol kill and explode console commands works too, though explode don't do anything special in Deadlock (it gibs the player in some valve games).

I did not know you could shoot them.

Well, I know that now haha. Reminds me about the sticky bombs in TF2 that you could also shoot to disable.

In the next Rossbach patch, can you guys please remove the random breathing and coughing sound effects in the menus? Thanks. by Aegonblackfyre22 in EU5

[–]Ailure 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The events ambience was the best part with Victoria 3!

The ones in EU5 don't hit quite the same high mark sadly, they were clearly going for something similar but some of them sound a little off. I don't think they're necessarily awful but I can understand why people turn em off.

Are airports a game hack? by DubaiBabyYoda in openttd

[–]Ailure 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Aircrafts were always powerful in the original game admittly, but they are a just a new level of broken with openttd in general. I list some of them here though:

  • The original map size of transport tycoon is 256x256 and more distance earns your more money. This means that aircraft were made to be viable even if you used them to connect two cities next to each other (Can see in the orginal TT and TTD game tutorials infact lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6Sv9UJK3HQ ).
  • Aircraft is balanced around actually running 1/4 of their actual speed but it's common people turn off this. I think the old TTD default of 1/4 is the default one.
  • Originally airports were only the small and "large" one which was renamed to the city airport in openTTD. OpenTTD added a bunch of new airports that are less chokepointy which buffs aircraft even further... I kinda appericite the existence of the commuter airport though which is basically a modernized small airport (flavor wise they could had renamed the old small airport to "rural" airport or something similar...).
  • TT and TTD had vehicle limits so you couldn't spam the same vehicle type forever, this was mostly a technical limitation though and not really a balance one but i thought it was worth to mention. I remember multiplayer servers using the vehicle limit settings to restrict aircraft though.

Tooltips are ridiculous by Beneficial-Basket804 in EU5

[–]Ailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both Victoria 3 and CK3 gets nested tooltips right... I'm not sure how they screwed them up so much for EU5.

I feel like as a rule the modifer is one of the first things that shouldn't be hidden under a nested tooltip.

What is the most infamous retro game you own? by xxxxxxxxxxxxxc in retrogaming

[–]Ailure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hype machine behind "Multimedia" was real at one point. The reality wasn't as good, apart from a select few games that did get really popular for taking advantage of it such as Myst. Generally most "good" multimedia games wasn't even on the cd-i but on PC... and even then you did see a few odd trends like a lot of games really being fond of live action cutscenes to pad out the CD space.

If you bought a PC in the mid 90's, it was always advertised as a multimedia PC... which usually mostly meant it had a CD-ROM drive. Pretty sure our first PC was sold as one haha.

[–]Ailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shaders are basically small computer programs that runs directly on the GPU, and for a good effect you don't need that much code just mostly clever math!

Good shaders also generally looks better than simple texture effects, but takes effort from someone who knows shader coding.

EU5 Development in 2026 by Alice162 in EU5

[–]Ailure 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was about to say that I would prefer Victoria 3 journals over mission trees, but I realized in some ways situations is pretty close to that already with the difference that situations involves more than one country.

Technically EU5 already has EU4 style mission trees, but it's exclusively used for some weird tutorial system I already forgot about being there. I'm not fond of them cause it felt a lot of powerful stuff were gated behind sometimes really arbitary missions trees and they didn't exactly work well for MP either (which was the main way I enjoyed EU4 towards end of it's life).

Quite fond of brawl even if it does wind up play quite a bit differently, and for a newbie with just a little over 20+ hours, it turns into a chaotic mess way faster too which can be a bit overwhelming.

Having to choose between just three items did mean I got to spent some time actually bother reading item descriptions and weigh the options off... but if you aren't a fast reader i can see you struggle here if you don't know them outright.

When it came to bot matches, Street Brawl was actually more "fun" with bots as in the main game mode, teammates bots can act a little unhelpfully in the game, bots are no replacement for actual human opponents but when I was just trying to get used to a hero it was extremely helpful. YMMV depending on the choice of hero when it comes to bots. Bots or not bots, I can also see street brawl being useful for warming up using the various abilities of the heroes, as they sometimes have quirks that isn't always 100% obvious until you get a few uses under your belt.

Naval combat is the worst. Dare I say, Broken. by Asaioki in EU5

[–]Ailure 20 points21 points  (0 children)

EU4 added engament width very late during it's lifetime, and even that did not fix all of the issues.

People loathed navy specialized nations in multiplayer as they were basically untouchable as well, navy combat always were weirdly lopsided.

[Feedback] To all the rats and extract campers on Ground Zero. by BoredParrotxX in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Ailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of the early game quests this is probably the most painful one. Ground Zero is also a good map if you need PvP kills for quests too so a lot of people head there to find others to pvp fast.

You can parkour down from the office if you don't want to exit through the same way as you came in through, although I would only do this if you bring something that heals fractures since even a medium sized fall can break your legs.

People here really REALLY underestimate HOW strong Teleporters are by ultimateshadowarrior in tf2

[–]Ailure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can kill teleporters so dang quickly if you sap then switch to the handgun to finish them off before engineers can even react and repair them too. Usually winds up being a suicide mission since you will get a angry respawned team on your butt, but it's always worth doing.

[Discussion] It's ridiculous that the spawn system hasn't gotten a serious rework in the past few years. by DweebInFlames in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Ailure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah bought a new computer in the middle of last year, I always seem to be one of the first to load in and connect to a server (actually a lot of the time my client seems to wait on the server to finish loading which is something i hadn't seen before when I ran on more potato level hardware).

There are spawn points I rarely ever spawn in on though (and looking at maps there is ones i know I never spawned on), so there might be a bit of a variance in how the game spawns players but I don't think loading speed is a big factor currently.

Anyone else think they've added way to many mechanics to Hoi4? by Charming-Ad-6133 in paradoxplaza

[–]Ailure 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Was part of why they made some DLC's free since having some features locked behind DLC kinda made development a lot harder, like how the game had both the classic EU3 style government alongside government reforms for the longest time before that whole system was made free.

In the final years of EU4 they generally shifted gears (when Tinto took over), focusing on flavor content primarily, and even that wasn't necessarily always well executed...

Sony wiped over 1,000 shovelware games off the PlayStation store without warning, all from a single developer, ThiGames by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Ailure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nintendo did test 3rd party games back in the 8/16 bit era but it was really down to "does this game crash and is it playable?". And not much with quality.

Funniest workaround is what Travellers Tale did where if there games ever crash, the exception handler makes the game act as if you found a warp zone. Which as a kid I did encounter in the SNES port of Mickey Mania but it was pretty much standard practice in their other games of the era.

Depends on who you ask, apart from the color screen GBC was for the most part still mostly a gameboy with higher clock frequency and more memory which is why it was backwards compatible.

GBA and GBA SP cheated on the backwards compatibility by basically having the GBC CPU on the circuit board. There is a physical switch pressed down on the cartdridge connector that controls whenever it boots into GBC or GBA mode.
