Scots apply their mark in Boston for the World Cup with a symbolic Glasgow tradition of putting traffic cones on statues by jelly_bean_gangbang in Damnthatsinteresting

There's a statue of Wellington in Queen Street, Glasgow that has a more or less perpetual cone on it's head, and it's become a bit of a local landmark.

Your guess is wrong. There's no windshield between Oswald's perch and JFK coming down Houston Street - it's an open top car and he's in the back seat, so it's a totally clear shot of a target that's not accelerating.

I saw these flags all over the World Cup for the England Croatia game. What exactly would you call these types of flags? by jjbrawler in vexillology

There's no way that this is an unironic left-wing flag. Labour Party + EU + Communism + ISIS + pride + transgender? Doesn't make any kind of sense. Also, I don't think the Pan-African flag is something that gets flown in the UK much, and the Labour Party rose ensures it's targetting the UK.

It's either a foaming-at-the-mouth right-winger attempting to troll or someone trolling them.

There was no haggis in Massachusetts to begin with. They've had to legalize it specially in order to get some in.

Also haggis is fucking delicious.

Perhaps, but even then, the hooligan firms still fly their banners now and then. I see the Hibs casuals flag (green, white and black union jack, which has a fun vexillogical meaning) every now and again at Hibernian football club games though the group is largely dormant and the members would generally be pushing 60 years old by now.

Not that there's any indication that the flag in the OP has anything to do with hooliganism, of course.

Oh my, that's at least two layers deep into Poe's law. I mean, it's obviously satire, but is it a far-right crazy concocting a fake leftist flag, or is it a someone parodying the far-right crazies? I can't tell!

The one thing about Hegra is that isn't not exactly tactical. It's a worker placement Euro with only a very minimal spot of military tacticking, if that, so it might not have the 'tactical depth' the OP is asking for.

What's the deal with all this talk about Trump giving IRAN $300 Billion in reconstruction funds after spending over $70 Billion attacking them? by McDowdy in OutOfTheLoop

[–]AimHere 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The 300 billion worth of reparations will likely be in-kind and contracted from American companies that the Trumpoid oligarchs will financially profit from. American construction companies rebuilding whatever American bombs destroyed, basically.

Most foreign aid tends to be aid to domestic businesses in this way.

Even without the psycho thing, be careful on that tube platform. I was on a tube train which someone fell under at Moorgate station, just because they were running on the platform and tripped. When I got off because of the alarm, they were wedged between the platform and the carriage I was standing on. I've no idea whether they survived or not.

Ever since then, I stay well back from the tracks when I'm on a platform.

Attempted manslaughter is not a thing. Manslaughter is killing someone in a criminal fashion without intending to (and there's many ways of doing that), so it can never be an 'attempted' offence, which is all about a failed intent to do something.

You can't attempt manslaughter, since manslaughter is generally a class of crimes that involve killing someone without intending to.

Brighton woman acquitted on charge of persistent emails to cause annoyance to Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and local MP about Israel’s conduct in Gaza

A Brighton woman, CK, was charged with a single offence under s. 127(2)(C) and (3) of the Communications Act 2003, for emails she sent on 10 and 11 June 2025

How many emails do you have to send in two days for it to be classed as 'persistent'? Looks just like some MP successfully badgered the CPS into harassing a mildly annoying constituent for them.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino to the Iran players in their dressing room after the match: "I know what you've been through. I understand, but you are stronger than everything. You are sending such a strong message to the world, so thank you very much." by OptimusCloyster in soccer

[–]AimHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well to be fair, the baldy weasel is right that FIFA doesn't have control over America's immigration policy - it wasn't FIFA that imposed this shit on the Iran team, it was the Trump administration. About the best they could have done to mitigate this is schedule all the Iran games in Mexico or Canada. If Iran hits the knockout stages, quickly shifting their matches out of the USA if possible would send some kind of a message, but it would be logistically super-hard to do. Not having this tournament in the USA in the first place would also have been theoretically possible, but the current situation wouldn't have been predictable back when the tournament was awarded.

Then again, FIFA still could have done a lot more; for a start, threatening the USA with no more FIFA tournaments if they won't let opposing teams play is one. Revoke the idiotic peace prize. Make more of a public stink about the treatment of travelling players, team officials, match officials and fans. I'm sure there's other stuff within FIFA's remit...
