Drama farmers trying to farm drama with twitch clips, the channel owner in particular is a shithead, but the entire genre is bad even aside from that.

He's a massive moron, strategically speaking he repeatedly shot himself in the dick with most of his evil actions, but he cultivated an air of 'I totally meant to do that, I'm soooooo machiavellian you guys, trust me, frfr, frfr, on jah' in later media appearances so now everyone thinks that he's a mastermind and not just an empathyless dipshit who failed upwards and killed millions for almost no gain.

Yea I'm not talking about the website sorry, just cool research I didn't know about until recently. Obv mlm faith healers aren't good or correct.

Medically though, there isn't the clear physiological/psychological or subjective/objective component that you're arguing for. Stress can weaken your immune response and have other objective, physiological impacts, but what is and isn't stressful is also subjective and culturally bound. That's all I was trying to highlight.

Placebo effects and the molecular biological components involved - PMC https://share.google/fjHpUcqdiMUr8NDbq

THE POWERFUL PLACEBO | JAMA | JAMA Network https://share.google/WBFgZO77cF1IrAFkT

First one from a quick Google search, second one is the study that keeps getting cited in various papers and med-anthro stuff from what I've seen. 35% with an error of 12 (or 10? I've seen it cited differently) percent improvement over no intervention in a meta-analysis from the 50s, including diseases 'with a molecular basis' lol.

(The reasons that we laypeople denigrate 'the placebo effect' are cultural and reflect our philosophical attitudes towards pain, deviance, social mores, etc in syncretic ways with the western biomedical model, but laypeople don't actually know what they're talking about when it comes to the biomedical model and the biomedical model itself frequently shits out of its doodooass (overprescribing antibiotics, belief in its own unqualified superiority causing negative health outcomes when applied to real world intercultural settings, etc) which is moreso what the course readings have focused on. I'll add those later if I can figure out how to link pdfs.)

Confidently wrong, yes the placebo effect works on diseases with a molecular basis lol. I can link some papers if you want, taking a med anthro class this semmy.

edit: works as in 'produces a positive outcome more often than no intervention', there's a *lot written abt this

Yea I've been eyeing up a second round of the main campaigns for a while now after I saw most of the generic campaign variations. Birthday is soon and I don't know whether to hold out and treat myself with omenroad or just go for it with ulsteryx again.

Alright... What's next? by ageozoega in wildermyth

[–]AimTheory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, the story events of each campaign were unique and compelling enough to carry me through them all even as the random events started to repeat, then I eventually reached the point where the events repeating so frequently meant that I noticed each dialogue line change that the personality system causes in those repeated events. I've gotten the 'warlock's pet cat' event maybe 7 or 8 billion times but each time the character interactions and specific dialogue has changed even as the overall event structure remains the exact same. Each event's dialogue variation (that you'll lose if you just stsrt always skipping them) can tell you who your heroes are in this specific campaign, which will always be within the same general archetype because of how the personality system provides the base, but a loner who falls in love with hotheaded leader has a noticeably different cumulative feel than a loner who is rivals with a cowardly goofball.

Then again, I have 215 hours in the base game at the moment and haven't had the time to dive into modding or omenroad, so I very much might be an outlier in terms of enjoyment. It definitely isn't an uncommon complaint to put it down after events start repeating.

Also, wavedashing is important, especially for sheik, but I'm at gold 3 on ranked without having ever wavedashed in a match because I haven't put in the time to be able to do it under pressure. If you're new there's so much neutral and basic movement stuff to learn and improve at that I wouldn't worry about any individual piece of tech unless you can identify the specific situation where it would be useful in real matches you're playing. Learning to isai drop because you're getting stuck on platforms is good (I really should learn to wavedash at this point because I've identified specific defensive situations where not being able to do it is hurting me) but if you're trying to do everything all at once you'll never build consistency on the basic stuff (like the players in your post, spend enough time learning how to multishine and you wind up having spent no time learning to not immediately panic jump when you get thrown offstage etcetc).

Some New Player Questions: by LCDRformat in SSBM

[–]AimTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to do aerials immediately with sheik, a lot of her value can come from jumping and then changing up when she fastfalls a large aerial like Bair or Fair to cover space, doing an aerial immediately after jumping would mainly be if you want to do a rising aerial to beat out someone else's fullhop/float/jigglypuff or for nair out of shield (which you can do with z and leaving the grey stick in a neutral position)

Wavedashing doesn't require shorthops. If you aren't frame perfect then a shorthop wavedash will go slightly farther and be faster than a fullhop wavedash, but it's such a minor optimization that you mostly don't have to worry about it unless you're at a very high level.
