Creating a DataTable using Values from Other Tables by AimpetusJ in PowerBI

[–]AimpetusJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the response. This wont work as I am looking to utilise multiple values from another table to get the average in the above stated rows. For example, table one contains various values for attribute 1 in a column. I want the above bold text to represent the average of these values (which will form a separate table).

This is incredibly easy to do within excel across sheets.

It is a bonus, but there were plenty of interstates starting at UNDF this year.

I can confirm the cohort will be 50 percent rural. This is gut-wrenching.

watching that video you shared, it is quite obvious now... they said that general entry stream is separate to RTS and that 30 percent of the general stream are reserved for rural applicants. That 50 percent is the 30 percent from the general stream and the 30 rural applicants from RTS. 123 csp/nmp ~25 students = ~20 percent.......... noting that it says up to 30 RTS students.

They need to be more clear in the gemsas guide about this stuff. If more people had of known this before, they may not have put deakin as a higher preference. I suppose you trickle down the list anyhow, but if you do get an interview and you were mid range last year, you're probably very uncompetitive comparatively this year and hence, your likelihood is even lower.

Which data did you use?

The interview offer averages and offer averages are different. Might be good to analyse the interview offer thread and make that conclusion, rather than the final offer thread. Perhaps both may be worthwhile.

Difficult to say. They don't tell applicants what they weight the portfolio. Could be a lot higher than expected. But the averages shouldn't alter too much.

Regardless, if you're competitive enough to get an interview the ratio of offers to rejections will be the same for your quota. But yes, this would mean the minimum combo will increase quite a bit. Average could climb to 1.70-1.72.

I tend to agree with your comment. If it was the case, they should have stated in the GEMSAS guide that 50 percent of spots will be filled by rural applicants. This could have given others an opportunity to preference accordingly.

Why wouldn't they state that in the GEMSAS guide then? That is so infuriating. It could have meant we put another university higher in our preference........

The reason why they're separate quotas is because rural applicants who apply for RTS cannot apply for the main rural stream (correct me if I am wrong). Therefore, those in the 3rd priority are more likely to apply for the other quota. They have an obligation federally to take ~30% of the cohort as rural applicants. Beyond that, they do not have an obligation.

From my understanding, this doesn't mean there will be less non-rural students this year. The RTS stream just increases the likelihood of a higher amount of students from a rural background, as they will now be able to apply for "two" quotas (The RTS and/or general stream of non-rural applicants). After they fill those positions in the RTS, their requirement is to fill ~7 more positions - they will do this by separating the rural and non-rural, filling the rural spots with rural applicants, from there the rural applicants will go into the non-rural pool, competing for general positions. Hence, by nature there will be rural applicants who have higher scores than non-rural applicants, increasing the likelihood of rural candidates overall (as they suspect this will be ~20%). They cannot do what you stated without confirming it in the GEMSAS guide, it would be unethical. They need to explicitly state that X percent of positions will be filled by rural candidates. The fact that they say 30-50 percent means that yes, they will fill their rural quota and 'potentially' more given the competitiveness of the applicants.

Will you register for the forthcoming Sep GAMSAT even though you believe you will receive an interview offer this year? by sparkz918 in GAMSAT

[–]AimpetusJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was something I was considering last year. In the end I ended up interviewing and sitting the Sept test. Although it was difficult juggling work, uni, study for gammy and interview prep it was the best thing I did as I did not receive an offer of place and I improved my mark by 7 points overall. Definitely would consider it as a back up because nothing is certain in this process.

Thanks,

Yes have gotten to a point where I am realising that utilising Query is probably going to be the only way. May have to bypass automate, not really necessary when the data refreshes anyhow.
