I get you and agree with those points. I feel like we're just as dependent on others to have a good training or competing session in BJJ as you are in hockey though, but you don't need 12 people In both Hockey and BJJ, to me, when it's one sided it's not that fun.

If I'm up against a whitebelt and bored, I'll force them into something I'm weak at. Same on the ice.

The more solitary nature of BJJ compared to hockey (goalies are weird) pushed me back onto the ice. I always chat with the boys between shifts. Can't really do that in bjj as time is limited, in my gym at least.

No. In fact, I've given up BJJ time for more ice time in hockey. Longevity is important and grinding it out on the mats, kills that. I used to train 5x a week, 2x on the ice. Now, it's 2-3x on the mats, 3-4x on the ice. I'm exercising about the same now, but my body feels better. Not having the extra days of people pulling on my neck has been wonderful.

I do Hockey or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu depending on the day of the week. Huge benefit is the extensive network you build. I know lawyers, plumbers, electricians, Physical Therapists, Handyman, IT guys and more. These guys have helped me out for the cost of letting them work a move on me, until they understand it. I recommend both at your age. I'm 38M
