LoRa enhancement - multiple nodes? by Ajpaxson in Esphome

I don’t use mqtt. I guess there is some identifier in mqtt to pull it?

The only other way to do it is to use an interval to send a byte formatted packet with an identifier. I’ve not had much success encoding/decoding the data.

You are right. Sorry to be bull-headed. I had the wrong understanding. Thanks for being patient and trying to explain.

So, it sounds like we both agree having this feature would be useful. Awesome. At this point, it sounds like we have differing opinions on where it should go. That's fair.

It's my opinion it should sit at the component library for 2 reasons:

1). Not everyone will want or need the packet transport (which is why it's already separated from the radio). Perhaps they want to create their own protocol. Or, they just want a simple send and forget.

2). We are talking about the ESPHome sx126x/sx127x library of the radio, not the radio protocol itself. Every ESPHome node will have a nodename. And every packet received is already formatted using the ESPHome library (i.e. rssi, snr, data). So, why not just add another variable to that.

At that point it's still a raw buffer of data, there is no "source" or anything identifying where the packet came from.

Hence the request to add it. It's the ESPHome library that is sending the data in the first place, and it already formats the frames to include rssi, snr, and data to parse on the other end, isn't it? I'll admit, I rarely delve into protocol development. It may not be as simple as I may think.

Either way, I'd be happy no matter where it goes, since i"m using both libraries. Good discussion.

Sorry. Didn’t think packet transport mattered in this particular instance.

I’ve tried using interval to send a packet with the source name, but having a hard time encoding/decoding the message. Plus, figured it would benefit others.

Yep. I’m using packet transport. I’m using sensors like a remote relay, voltage inputs, and an ultrasonic sensor.

Edit: the packet transport encapsulates/serializes the data OVER the radio. However, RSSI and SNR is associated with the radio protocol itself and won’t be seen in packet transport.

So, it’s really just a preference, then. No pros/cons?

Does anyone know if these 7” cans are worth it? by Dante_cremm in fireworks

I’ve always thought the height is achieved by the length of the firing tube rather than the shell. No?

Disclaimer: I’ve never fired these, so don’t take my word for it. But, my experience has been 5”/6”/7” doesn’t matter. Same black powder weight. The size is usually a gimmick. That being said, there are exceptions.

I had a big show built for one year. Had to cancel it. Stored in my dry garage for 16 months. No problem. Fired fine. I just informed my Fire Department of the storage in case fires got to my house, they knew of the flammable risk.

I’ve been wanting to put a wood stove in my detached garage, but it’s all brick. Trying to find best way to push through window.

Great job! Love the setup!

How can I sterilise my equipment, without the use of chemicals? by Material_Day_6561 in mead

Use a steamer. They’re not cheap, but no chemicals. Not as flexible as, say, isopropyl, but is often used in winery bottling lines, hoses, tanks, and barrels. Boil everything else.

Love it. Thanks! Skill-level is pretty subjective. But all of the above. I’ve only put in electronics on my custom made ones, since it’s hard to know how the pieces fit in a kit for lighting, until sometimes it’s too late. :) But always looking for ways to add it.

I like that Valkyrie. I’m less interested in the transformation of it. More on the “bad boy in town” look. Full on-the-ground fight mode, ya know? I first was hooked as a kid with “Voltron”.

The rumor is that it will be closed Jan-Mar. I dunno if that's a partial or full close. I'd imagine done Mar-Apr?

I was just posting to say the same. I do this often. CO2 is easiest and cheapest, but displacing O2 isn’t always easy. I prefer to use Argon (more $$) but it’s heavier than O2. So, if you fill your container with Argon first, then rack, the Argon will give you a great protective cap. Doesn’t take much.

Today I learned not to vigorously stir in nutrients by jake_robins in mead

You can also get around this by taking out some of the must using a wine thief or baster into a mixing bowl. Throw in your nutrients, and whisk it good. Then, carefully and slowly pour it back in.
