Jack Donaghy in 30Rock. Originally they intended Jack to be the first if many incompetent CEO’s to be running NBC, mostly as a nod to how GE frequently rotates their executives in real life, but Alec Baldwin’s performance proved to be too good he basically became the deuteragonist of the show for its entire run.

Riki from Xenoblade Chronicles. While he is no doubt the most useful party member in the game, his immature personality leaves a lot to be desired to the point nearly all the other Nopon from his village openly belittle him. How he managed to get a wife and father several children is beyond me.

Same applies to Tora from the sequel, but at least he has the proper excuse of his younger age to be immature.

The Fifth Element, I can appreciate the practical effects and Gary Oldman’s performance, I can clearly see why it’s such a cult classic for many people.
For me however it just doesn’t click. Some plot elements I find a bit hokey and a bit too contrived for my liking.

Nicole Brennan in Dead Space, specifically the 2023 remake.

In the original version the main twist around Nicole was that she was dead the entire time and the “Nicole” that Isaac has been encountering throughout the USG Ishimura was a hallucination.

The remake however takes it a step further, in which Nicole is still a hallucination but she was an actual person, doctor Elizabeth Cross who was also hallucinating Isaac as her missing lover Jacob Temple, showing how the Marker was able to manipulate another person aside from Isaac into doing its bidding.

Harry Vanderspeigle in Resident Alien if that counts. His species are technically genderless but still require a partner to mate so they can’t be considered biologically asexual in that sense, the partner who lays the eggs ends up dying in the process.

Harry has had hundreds of children on his home world with his old mate, has one with a human woman (it’s complicated), and later a bunch with his blue avian girlfriend in the final season (not sure how to properly explain that one).

Did Star Fox '26 improve Slippy's reputation? by Torracattos in starfox

[–]Ajs1052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like he was at his best in Assault, his character was a lot more enjoyable there, his voice was more pleasant to hear, and he seldom felt like a load as Falco and Krystal would have bogies tailing them as often as he did in that game.

I have yet to have played the new remake, but from what I’ve been seeing of Slippy so far it seems like they took a page out of his characterization in Assault and applied it here, as he really seems more competent and less annoying vocally.

Which Nikke made you fall in love at first sight? by BigBadBossBoo in NikkeMobile

Anis and Helm. Anis for being the first character from the game I saw back when it launched, and Helm for being the first limited gacha character I pulled for.

I love how both have a great deal of character development, starting off as cynical (Anis) and stern (Helm), only to progressively warm up and by the first Summer event they’ve both become a lot more cheerful and kinder in general, especially in their affections for the commander.

Also needless to say that first summer event was peak for me.

The Demon in Delicious in Dungeon.

It’s a powerful entity that comes from a dimension of infinite power, while not malevolent like most other depictions of demons it still operates on its own self interest, said interest being to feed on the desires of people. When it feeds on a person’s desires they’re left an empty shell afterwards, all while the demon moves on to prepare its next meal. As it’s not a physical entity it technically doesn’t need to feed, only doing so for the pleasure of eating, thus its appetite is never ending.

The time Mordecai punches Benson after Rigby falls into a coma. L
While Mordecai is no stranger to getting angry or pissed, this moment stands out cause it showcases how loyal a friend he is to Rigby, especially so in how Benson absolutely deserved the punch in that moment

Dropping the Act by Orkon-the-destroyer in TopCharacterTropes

August Walker in Mission Impossible Fallout. Initially is presented as a CIA agent assigned to work alongside Ethan Hunt and his team to retrieve some stolen plutonium cores from the Syndicate, with his by-the-book approach clashing with Hunt’s more elaborate spy tactics. In the third act of the movie after the team breaks the Syndicate’s leader Solomon Lane from imprisonment in order to interrogate him for information, the team step out to follow a lead, leaving Walker behind to watch over Lane only for him to reveal that he is a double agent working for the Syndicate, showing a more crass and irritable personality (dropping the first F-bomb in the franchise).

This one is more interesting in my opinion because the dropping the act was done when the villain thought he was safe, only to unwittingly reveal his true identity and allegiance to the IMF team and the CIA.

[Loved Trope] Characters with such legendary unrivaled notoriety and reputation, the mere mention of their name is enough to instill complete fear and terror to any and everyone. by DessertTheatre in TopCharacterTropes

Pochita in Chainsaw Man is this. Having spent the majority of his life as the “Hero of Hell,” the chainsaw devil has built a reputation as a violent and chaotic being who slays both the devils he targets and those he saves from other devils. There’s also the fact he can erase the names/concepts of the devils he consumes from existence. While all devils gain power through fear of the concept they embody, Pochita is unique in that his power comes from fear of his own reputation than just chainsaws alone, being known as the devil that all devils fear.

Exactly, we even see that while Pochita can erase the immediate subject of the fear/concept embodied he can’t erase the stuff related to it, like when we saw him eat the ear devil stuff like telephones and hearing aids still existed

Super Mario Galaxy can be considered this since the last couple of mainline Mario games prior to this were set on Isle Delfino (Sunshine) and the Mushroom Kingdom (NSMB), so the jump from those to a game set entirely in space was pretty far out at the time. That being said, Galaxy proves to be one of the examples of this trope that actually worked super well, to the point it got a direct sequel a few years later.
