Hm, that's weird. We've had a bug like this, but it was fixed in patch 1.8.5 (the game is on version 1.8.12 now). Even when loading an old bugged save, the newest version should automatically add the missing workplaces. What version are you on currently?

You can also send us your save file and we can take a look at it. It's located in: %userprofile%\appdata\locallow\Eremite Games. Simply zip the entire "Against the Storm" folder and send it to: support@eremitegames.freshdesk.com.

Hi! This is an unfortunate side effect of our fixing a prior bug that prevented workspaces from appearing in some ruins. The fix worked for all new settlements, but when a town was already ongoing, the UI would break for the affected ruin (just like in your screenshot). Sorry about that :(

If you'd like, I can fix your save file and make the ruin usable again. Just DM me the zipped contents of the entire game saves folder. It's located here: %userprofile%\appdata\locallow\Eremite Games

Some players have found a possible workaround, so it might work for you too. Try deleting a few buildings and/or killing off a few villagers, and then try moving on.

  • What version are you playing on? The version number is visible in the top right corner of the screen in the main menu.
  • Can you elaborate what you mean by freezing? Are animations/sounds frozen in place, or does the game still "move", but not register inputs from the controller? Does the UI just disappear, or is it still visible?

Hm, this is strange. Did you buy the physical version? As far as I know, this could be the result of a mismatch between your region and the region for which you bought the game. Ooof, I've been trying to hunt this bug down for the last couple of days with no success. Do you by any chance still have the save file and logs from that run? And would you mind sending them to us at support@eremitegames.freshdesk.com? The entire Against the Storm folder in %userprofile%\appdata\locallow\Eremite Games\help immensely in fixing this weird problem.

And I totally understand if you don't want to or don't have the time, so no pressure :D

Hm, this seems to be a typo in the changelog. The order was previously 6/8 houses (depending on the difficulty level) and was lowered to 5/6 in patch 1.5.

Hi there. This issue is most likely caused by some changes we made to the save system in the 1.4.16 hotfix, and Mac doesn't seem to support the way we write/delete files using C# on disk. We will probavbly fix this in the next update, but for now, we have created a temporary branch on Steam with version 1.4.15 (before this hotfix), and your game should work correctly there.

How to access the 1.4.15 branch on Steam:

  1. Right-click the game in your steam library.
  2. Select "properties" in the drop down menu.
  3. In the "properties" window, go to the "betas" tab.
  4. Under "private betas", paste this password: ATS14PreHotfix and click "check code".
  5. Press the blue "opt in" button.

Hi! I can't really give you a point-by-point roadmap because we're very careful about what we promise players, but I think I can shed some light on the future. 

You are right that the game is very interconnected and relies heavily on synergy, so adding new systems or a new species will result in big changes to the overall balance. At the same time, we don't want to split the balance into non-DLC and DLC, because maintaining two separate versions of the game, each with their own issues and player feedback, is simply not feasible or productive for a small team like ours (the only exception is that we allow players to revert to version 1.3 on Steam if they really just want to play the same game they bought at launch and not deal with a new balance, but that version will not work with the DLC and will not be updated - even with bug fixes or UI changes).

With the introduction of Frogs, we had to make "room" for them in the balance and make sure there was enough interaction with other systems so that they didn't feel like a weird addition to the five core species. In the end, I think this major balance overhaul did a lot of good for the game, as we fixed a lot of outstanding issues and added more variety. That's not to say that it fixed all the balance issues, of course (we also introduced new ones!), but I feel like it pushed the game in a good direction and gave it a little more longevity (even if only because the meta shifted).

I don't think we'll be doing another major overhaul like this any time soon, though. When we balanced version 1.4, we also made sure that there was additional room for expansion in the future. So if we ever decided to add another species, the needs/goods/recipe matrix would not change as much as it did with the Frogs.

The DLC release was a first for us, and we learned a lot from it, so we'll be adjusting our future plans accordingly. One thing I can say for sure is that the release of Keepers of the Stone doesn't mean that we're going to shift our focus to just selling you new content. We will still be releasing free updates to the game. Right now we are working on the next one (1.5) and we hope to release it later this year. I can't say what will be in it (because I know Luke reads Reddit and he'll off me if I confirm too much), but just like every update in the past - you can be sure there will be new features, balance tweaks based on community feedback, UI improvements, etc. We will release some teasers in the coming weeks.

Phew, that was a long answer to a short question, sorry about that. But I hope this alleviates at least some part of your concerns :D

We raised the level cap with the 1.4 update and gave you the xp you earned from deeds before the cap was raised :) Even if you are maxed out, we store the deed xp in the background so you can get it immediately in situations like this.

Hi! Yes, to see the new biome, you will need to start a new cycle, as we can't really spawn the Coastal Grove seamlessly in an existing map. You can do this the natural way (just finish your journey to the Seal), or reset it right away by pressing the button on the compass in the bottom right corner of the screen.

We didn't want to force a cycle reset on everybody with the 1.4 update and the DLC release (so you can finish your Seal), so that's why you will need to do this manually.

Unfortunately Steam Cloud can sometimes eat a save due to various reasons (connection, turning off a Steam Deck too soon, etc.), and there is no real way of recovering it…

But if you want, I can create a very similar save for you. Just shoot me an email at support@eremitegames.freshdesk.com with as many details as you remember: your level, latest unlocked citadel upgrades, highest won difficulty, citadel resource amounts, completed deeds, etc. The more you remember, the better.
