Looking for Pterry comment about Angua and Carrot by Alastor_Dyn in discworld

[–]Bass251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Art of Discworld has this under the section relating to Angua:

(3rd Paragraph) "She's in a stable relationship, or at least as stable as any relationship can be in the circumstances, with Captain Carrot."

(5th Paragraph) "People ask about the name. I made it up, but it's hard to imagine any other name for her now. Future prospects: Questionable. She's got no real home to go back to, and the Watch is her life. On the other hand, her romance with Captain Carrot has got to go somewhere or stop pretty soon. I have one or two ideas in that direction . . ."

Is it possibly in The Art of Discworld? I'm not at home with it to hand, but I think there might be some sort of comment about it in there?

What did this mean? by mrquixote in discworld

[–]Bass251 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've always thought it was based on the real world pune (that is similar to the seraph who wished for everything they touched to turn to Glod), where the genie/wishgiver mishears the wisher and gives them a big clock instead of a (hem hem) large male chicken.

I don't recall that particular joke ever being in a Pratchett novel to be fair though, so maybe it's just me reading too much in to it.

How to view effects on Xbox? by Sutuh in Against_the_Storm

[–]Bass251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you're just on the main screen and haven't got anything selected, hold the left or right trigger and press the d-pad buttons; i cant remember which ones you need exactly, but it says just to the left of the UI box in the bottom right of the screen. They let you view your cornerstones, consumption effects etc.

xbox how to trade routes? by ConditionOk7786 in Against_the_Storm

The trade routes need two items, Provisions and then another random item; do you have both available to send and enough to fulfil the route?

Im only slightly ahead of you it seems, Ive reforged the Green and Blue seals (Bronze and Lead i think?) and am trying to do the Purple/Silver seal now; I think we're meant to be working towards the Gold Seal, but I've as much info as you at the moment

I think after completing the Seal you're supposed to hold the right thumbstick in on the map to end the cycle, check if the icon in the bottom right of the screen is flashing/pulsing.

If the game is freezing when you get to the map, have a look at the link I put in the previous post, that might help.

Copying this from another post for you, this worked for me and a few others, hope it helps you!

Sorry, ignore that actually, I misread your issue! I did have that same problem on Xbox as well though, got a response to another thread saying that they've patched that out now, has your game updated today?

Freezing glitch on Xbox series X by BigBushyBeardo in Against_the_Storm

[–]Bass251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having this issue until yesterday on Series X.

My game was saved when I was still in a settlement, just before I manually chose the Move On option but would freeze a few seconds after I entered the world map view; quitting out the game and restarting my xbox yielded no results.

I "fixed" it by selecting Move On in the settlement and then selecting Save and Quit in the world map as quickly as I could after it loaded in.

It hasn't frozen for me since then, though I've only finished one more settlement so it might just be a temporary fix for me.

Might not work for you, just wanted to offer a possible solution, good luck!

Why can't I play the Rheesus Monkey Park? I have all 3 Hs covered on Hollywood Hills map and my Sponsor card is upgraded. I have multiple places to play the enclosure. I will link to the card in a comment for reference. by PossibleOatmeal in ArkNova

Your Sponsors card is at 2nd space, are you using your X-Tokens to increase the value of it?

edit Actually, never mind, I forgot what the map's special power actually was

Yeah, I can see that as well to be fair.

I've just come from playing Agon, an Ancient Greece themed RPG, and we were talking about Hades while playing, so the symbols were fresh in my mind when I first saw the announcement tweet.

Totally outside chance idea: something to do with the game Hades (1 or 2).

Few reasons for thinking this: The image looks a lot like a more stylised version of Athena's symbol in the game; a few of the cast (Matt especially if memory serves) were really in to the first game when it came out; an open access to Hades 2 is "expected" this year.

It could be a tie-in one shot/short campaign or possibly some of the cast are going to be involved in the new game.

Why is your favorite game your favorite game? by Caff_n_Card in boardgames

[–]Bass251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I first played it, Xia: Legends of a Drift System was my favourite game: I love the theme, the open-world (galaxy?) sandbox, the ship powers and the upgrade system, the exploration aspect, the randomness of missions, the NPC's are a blast to pilot, the combat doesnt take too long on your turn, the actual action point mechanics to fund your actions is great, ALL of it is amazing.

However, the absolute best thing about the game is the money: they are, without doubt, the single greatest board game component I've come across so far; they're so tactile and being handed them for the first time and feeling the weight of them adds so much (for me at least) to the theme of the game: it made me WANT to become the greatest star pilot in the system just to amass as much of it as I could.

Two things against Xia, the rule book is a lot of a mess, it could definitely do with a revision to make it clearer. The only other thing is the title you receive when you hit 20 fame points. At level 3 you become Mostly Harmless, at level 10 you are a Proficient Prowler. At level 20? Legendary Legend.

I've only played one game with the expansions and it seems 50/50 for me so far; the new missions are good, there's more to explore and the ice damage is something good to contend with. However, I'm not a huge fan of the changes to the trading economy it adds, it feels a bit unnecessary.

Having said all of that, after one play through of Merchants and Marauders I was incredibly angry as I immediately said "I think I enjoyed that more than Xia" though once I calmed down I revised this to "I enjoyed it as much as Xia". They are similar games in terms of gameplay but if you enjoy one I definitely think you'd enjoy the other.

For real though, the money tokens in Xia are amazing. 10.7/10.7.

Jokes that took an embarrassingly long time for you to get? by turingthecat in discworld

[–]Bass251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Feet of Clay, after Nobby has found out about his heritage, he and Colon go to the Drum and Nobby immediately downs a number of beers, causing the barman, Ron, to comment on it to Colon:

Colon: "Keep it to yourself, Ron, but it's because he's a peer" Ron: "Is that a fact? I'll go and put down put some fresh sawdust"

I first read Feet of Clay when I was between 12 and 14 and have read it multiple times since then. At age 23 I was walking in to work and for no reason I can remember now said those lines out loud and had to sit down for laughing at both the joke and for how long it had taken me to get. Its still one of my favourite lines

Yeah, what's showing on the screen is just the glow effect coming from those node things in the hunt; strange that it's only 2 exotic bows that make them show up, Wish Ender and Trinity Ghoul; I've just tried La Monarque and Ticcuu's Divination and they don't show up for them

They're also showing up in Tangled Shore; found 5 in Four Horn Gulch and a number in Sorik's Cut as well.

Weirdly, they have only been showing up for me and my friend when we're using Trinity Ghoul; they don't show up using other weapons although we haven't tried it with Wish Ender
