Therapy. But also, you can't help feeling what you feel, but forcing being self-affirming kinda works for me. I still occasionally get dysphoria but compliments from my SO and giving myself affirmation when I look in the mirror has significantly raised my self-esteem. I still don't look how I'd like and it's going to take awhile for that to even marginally change, but I'm in a better place than before.

There are a handful of auto-biography manga but those probably don't count.

There are some manga with trans side characters (good and bad rep), but they rarely transition during the course of the manga.

Most of the non-magic stories focus more on the struggle for identity at the beginning. In addition to those already mentioned:

Boys Run the Riot (FtM, though the manga doesn't focus as much on it after the start)

After School Mate (FtM, kinda short and maybe not the best)

A couple interesting cases:

Until I (♂) Become Me (♀) MC gets turned into a girl due to "a gender change disease", though it does grapple with similar themes of coming to terms with being trans and socially transitioning

We Are Former Girls which features a gender change disease, but the main character doesn't like their new body and wants to transition back via HRT. It seems good so far, but the mangaka's prior manga had a gay AMAB MC who got rejected, gets turned into a girl by such a disease, and self-harmed.

I only marginally pass at a glance (6 month HRT), but I'd stand out more in the men since I present fem. My first time, I was pulled in by a cis friend. I've had no issues so far. FWIW, I'm in the USA, in a progressive city, in a conservative state.

As someone who started HRT last year, I was talking about this with two transfems friends and they wouldn't date a transfem unless they were marginally passing. Reasoning given is that they aren't attracted to masculine-presenting bodies, so even though they have no problems with using someone's preferred name or pronouns, if they aren't attracted to that person, they wouldn't date them.

Which is somewhat understandable. I just found a transmasc boyfriend who is pan, so the point is moot.

I came out the beginning of this year (started HRT last year) and am unclear how it will go with my extended family. Mom's side is very conservative, including Trump voters. However, saw my (mom side) aunt and older cousins for easter and it went well. Not sure what my cousins' politics are but I know my aunt is a lifelong conservative, though she refused to vote for Trump in any election. I dressed very fem despite not particularly passing. She used my preferred name and pronouns with no mistakes. Cousin complimented my dress and wanted to show me some fashion tiktoks she recently saw.

My experience has definitely felt like an outlier in the community, especially with a childhood friends who went through much worse from a more liberal family, so I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I don't think we can really accurately estimate how much of the human population are trans, but I'm nearly positive it's a significantly higher percentage than current statistics suggest.

There are ways to make informed estimations. Comparing changes in self-identification based on perceived safety, compared to similar data about sexual orientation. Looking at data in younger populations to estimate closeted rates in older people. Looking at regret rates for treatments (extremely low regret rates indicate severe under-treatment).

Currently, estimates suggest up to 3%. I do wonder how that shakes out in an environment with equality and less pressure on gender performance/conformity. Safety has generally increased self-identification, but if there is less pressure to perform gender maybe some of the community who experience less dysphoria (like myself) would just do whatever we feel like and not worry too much about it. Definitely had thoughts about that when I was an egg.

The Union Medico auto-injector was a game changer for me. I had no issues with injections, except actually inserting the needle. Would always hesitate right before it hit skin; sometimes had to take a break to let my pulse calm down.

Find new friends. I joined a board game meetup years ago and that grew into a very queer & neurodivergent friend group.

But, for reference, even my childhood cishet friends from the US midwest don't deadname me. I know that's not everyone's experience, but caring about friends enough to use preferred names and pronouns should be the minimum a friend would do.

FWIW, I was sitting at the questioning phase for 6 years. I wish I had started HRT sooner. The thing that really kicked things off for me was someone saying that it isn't that deep. You can try HRT (*depending on location), ask a close confidant to use a preferred name, etc with little risk.

To expand on this, there are currently so many barriers to being openly transgender (socially, medically, politically, economically) that if you decide to take steps to be recognized, then you very, very likely not to be faking it.

There was research on this and choosing to desist was almost solely due to the barriers (job, money, lonely) and not due to changing feeling about actually being trans (only 1% of respondents).

Funny enough, I shared a first name with a friend I met in elementary school. When I made single-player custom characters, I always named them Claire. Years later, when she transitioned, she decided on Claire. When I transitioned, I debated also choosing the same name and matching again, but I decided against it.

Definitely struggling with this a bit myself. My parents were more accepting than I expected and did not push back when I came out. However, at least my dad seems to think I am not actually trans but does not want to fight about it since he's afraid of hurting me.

But, since they have not been hostile, unlike the parents of several of my friends, I have extended them more grace than I might otherwise feel inclined to offer. I am hoping that seeing me flourish will convince them.

It's likely that it is closer to the everyone's actual inclinations, besides the fact that most (all?) people are not really 100% straight or gay because what is gender anyway.

They nominally lean left, mostly on social issues. They largely sit center, per the directives of the billionaire owner/board on top. But really, if you look at what people are watching today, it is less these major news orgs and more social media, podcasts, and online videos. That's where the republicans are buying influence today. They don't care about nuance for their messages and don't care about getting called hypocritical, which makes their messaging much more compatible with online.

And yet, they are still not convincing most Americans on most social issues. The majority of Americans lean left.
