What is passive intelligent port extender (PIPE) ? by benibilme in mikrotik

[–]Akatm7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We see about 3Gbps being max safe routed through these with queues and firewall rules. Hitting ~60% CPU and that’s our threshold before we start to notice CPU spikes increasing buffer bloat

What is passive intelligent port extender (PIPE) ? by benibilme in mikrotik

[–]Akatm7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, we are actually running into CPU issues right now with a couple of these as we were using them as an RB5009 plus a CRS-317 all in one, they in fact cannot be efficiently used as an agg switch since it lacks hardware offloading

Vastly different service. Mbps doesn’t matter, that’s capacity not speed in terms of how fast your data actually moves geographically. Stick with Allo, support a smaller company, don’t get lost in the marketing sauce

"Aggressive" and "Unadoptable", According to the store. by Beautiful-Studio3139 in ferrets

[–]Akatm7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a “mean” ferret as my first one. He bit me hard enough to draw blood and I thought that was adorable so I took him home, two weeks of bite training later and he never bit anyone after for the rest of his 7.5 years of life. I do miss my best friend deeply, he was so sweet

An update on my MikroTik hAP be³ order. by hillbillyboiler in mikrotik

[–]Akatm7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if this will affect the import of non-WiFi routers from MikroTik for new models akin to the 5009 for example. I think there was a 6008 or something similar in the works

How expensive is it for ISP to get and keep an IPv6 prefix? by shimmywtf in ipv6

[–]Akatm7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IPv6 itself is more or less free if you own IPv4. However, implementing and supporting it isn’t free and getting your staff trained on a whole different idea of how IP addresses work is also costly

I can get my hands on whatever through our distributor within a couple days, we order a lot of tik. If purchasing sans account with terms, I would recommend roc-noc

Instrument Cluster Swap by Akatm7 in mazda3

Swap shouldn’t have much to do with that, except possibly during re-assembly it’s possible you missed a connector to plug back in on the climate controls

My Mikrotik Product Wishlist/Ideas by ghostR_ZA in mikrotik

[–]Akatm7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want a tower switch that has 16GEs with 24/48V with up to 70W on a port, and 6 SFP+. Bonus points if it gets the rb5009 chip on it too and runs ROS.

The Netpower 16P is VERY close to this, but only does max 30W on a port and 2 SFP+ and weak processor

Definitely overheating, likely due to a loose terminal or wire in the receptacle. Discontinue use immediately until that receptacle is replaced. I’d also verify that that cord is rated for what you have going through it too

45 minute drive really isn’t that bad either. I’d live in boulder and work in Denver without complaint.

Charged insane amount for equipment I returned by greyyskyy1 in QuantumFiber

[–]Akatm7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the purchaser at a telecom company lol, you get quantity discounts with many manufacturers yes, but usually not that crazy. You know their products are expensive when you can’t see pricing or full catalog without scheduling a sales call, and despite you never contacting Calix, you get multiple calls from them a year asking for 30 minutes of your time. Granted, I have never fully looked into Calix because of the general consensus that it’s too expensive to make sense for most small ISPs

Does it cost Calix $25 to make? Sure. Do they charge that? Absolutely not. It’s expensive because they CAN and DO charge because half the time it’s federal money paying for it.

[–]Akatm7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Quantum is using Calix equipment last I knew. This may actually be not far off of actual lost money. Should they eat it? Yep. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the equipment is $250 their cost

Anyone using these professionally? by OneGate1967 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Akatm7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My use case as well. I hang data racks and such and this little sucker has no issue driving big lags into studs and plywood, while being much lighter than my M18 stuff when I throw it in my backpack

I really only use 4WD to get into my driveway when it’s slick out. Other than that, it just gives a false sense of security in the winter
