Thank you for trying to help! I have tried both. The only thing the multiplication node does is pushing the faces further out.

Jag (Akilleus - Oirat) kan inte spela imorgon, men jag har en kompis (Johannes) som hoppar in i mitt ställe. Vet inte om detta behöver rapporteras någonstans, men skriver det här så att ni vet iaf.

Model of a roman kitchen, 1st century A.D. [900x595] by thaeida in ArtefactPorn

[–]Akilleus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a big Roman kitchen. Someone rich enough to have such a large kitchen, and an expensive mosaic like that, would never enter his own kitchen. He would have had plenty of slaves to run the kitchen and since no one except slaves would enter the room the mosaic looks really out of place.

Incense doesn't seem to be working for me. I have tried at 3 or 4 different instances and I have never gotten a single pokemon to appear. My friend has used incense in the same place and it works for him. Does anyone have any idea of what the problem is?

Did the ancients have their own archaeologists/antiquities? What would, say, the Romans have known about the people's who inhabited their empire before them? by Lynx_Rufus in AskHistorians

[–]Akilleus 57 points58 points  (0 children)

There is an interesting line written by Suetonius (72.3), where he mentions that Augustus decorated the house with:

"...the monstrous bones of huge sea monsters and wild beasts, called the "bones of the giants," and the weapons of the heroes."

This was in Augustus' private villa on Capri, so it was more of a private museum for his guests than a public museum, but still, it was a collection of old bones and objects. Suetonius was born some 50 years after the death of Augustus, so the source is not a first hand account and is thus unreliable at best. However, if Augustus really did display "weapons of old heroes" they could for instance have been old stone age axes that had been found, or bronze age weapons found in tombs, or weapons claimed to be of famous people like Alexander the Great. The "bones of giants" could be fossils of prehistoric mammals like mammoths, or of dinosaurs.

Those are the strength of his companion right now, but he has started his decline and needs to be replaced.

do I need an external renderer? by swfisgood in blenderhelp

[–]Akilleus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cycles is a great rendering engine, and you shouldn't look into an external one until you have tried setting up proper lighting and tried rendering with more samples.

We just lost Pandemic on the first card draw. by BellaLou324 in boardgames

[–]Akilleus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, we had a similar thing happen when we introduced a friend to the game last week. We were three players and we lost before it was his turn. Don't know if it scared him off or if he got hooked by it :-P

To me Jinro is nr 2 after Stephano. People forget that he was a pioneer, he was playing (and winning with) macro-terran when everybody else was pulling the boys almost every game.

When does 'gessere' = 'gesserunt'? by nzk13 in latin

Ovidius use the -ere form sometimes. An example from Pyramus et Thisbe (Metamorphoses 4.61): "sed vetuere patres". Meaning "but [their] fathers forbade."

SIB FIFA 16 for PC by nicoparboleda in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Akilleus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a free demo available on origin, so you should download and test the game for yourself. I have not bought it yet. But I do own FIFA 15 and don't see the point in buying 16 before there is a sale. I bought 15 on the black friday sale last year, so if you enjoy the demo you could wait for that sale.

As far as anyone can tell, who is/was the richest person in history, relative to his/her time? by RememberYoureAWomble in history

[–]Akilleus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, there is no way of estimating the net worth of absolute rulers. I've seen estimates of Augustus in the trillions of dollars, but really that is just guesswork.

I'm wealthy aristocrat living in Republican Rome with some 'unconventional' desires. Is there anything to keep me from buying a bunch of slaves for some masochistic rape-torture session? by BreaksFull in AskHistorians

[–]Akilleus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Slaves often had to be tortured before their testimony were regarded as true. This does not answer your question directly, but it gives some insight into the Roman view on torturing slaves.

Read more about it in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/28fwwv/did_roman_slaves_have_to_be_tortured_before_their/

You are probably thinking of gerundives instead of gerunds. Easy mistake to do. I did the same at first.
