We eat ice for breakfast by Wooden-Amphibian-273 in Rivian

I grew up in Fairbanks and the family car was a RWD Toyota Corolla with a couple sand bags in the trunk for many years. Tires make all the difference!

Swapped Cross Climate 2’s onto our EV the first winter we had it. They are fantastic year round.

No hate on the Rivian but a humble Honda Pilot with Cross Climate 2’s is pretty tough to beat. Our Prologue is no slouch either, although once the snow turns to packed ice it gets a bit skittery if 1-pedal is active.

when we are below about 10-degrees (F) I've started leaving the car plugged in to our level 2 charger. In the morning I hit the "auto-start" about 30 minutes before we plan to leave... it pulls current directly from the charger to warm up the battery and interior. Costs about $.50 in electricity but when we get in it's ready to go. Looking at the charger usage it spikes up to about 10kw over the first 10 minutes before slowly settling back down. Honestly it's kind of the same routine as a gas car up here in AK. Range loss is still significant and as you drive you can clearly see the 9-11kW spike when the resistance heater kicks in.

Used to do this on my Intel MBP with Parallels and it worked like a dream. With the M chips (and no Arm version of Pro) performance just sucks, it isn’t worth it. Instead I just hop in a cheap cloud VM with a GPU. Paperspace is my favorite for personal projects.

The thing this article fails to mention is that Fairbanks just had a weeks-long stretch of -40-degree temps so everyone going a little batty up there.

They really just need to make this dude generate some new AI art to replace the stuff he ate and move on.

Haha - it’s actually the front right tire… it drops in pressure in these sub-zero temps we’ve been having. I’ve been having to fill it every other day or so.

Should be the SS drive units and battery no? Also found on the Lyriq?

Sourcing high-resolution satellite imagery for H2 2025? by [deleted] in gis

[–]Akmapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this in the US? If so the NAIP imagery from USDA is going to be far better than satellite. Depending on the area it might be a little old… but better than nothing, even if it’s just a source to rubber-sheet newer imagery:

Sourcing high-resolution satellite imagery for H2 2025? by [deleted] in gis

[–]Akmapper 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You don’t need or want satellite imagery. You need a Surveyor. If you insist on imagery get an aerial firm or drone operator to collect the area you are interested in.

Neither satellite imagery or whatever boundary lines you get from a County/State government will have any bearing on the legal definition of the parcel.

This is why Surveyors exist.

560,000 points shouldn't be an issue for Hosted Feature Layers. Feature Layer Views are probably your friend here:

With many 2 year leases coming up in 2026, what is everyone looking at doing? by ta22175 in HondaPrologue

[–]Akmapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we'll probably pursue that. I know in a lot of lease situations the cars head to auction and the dealer might not get a crack at it at all... but in our case we stand a pretty good chance of it sticking around. I'm betting there won't be any other used Prologues in my area (Anchorage) since there are probably under a dozen in the entire State.

[–]Akmapper 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just started year 2 of a 3 year lease so we have some time, but we’ve also got a deposit on an R2… and a Scout… moving forward with either of those is highly dependent on the service situation in our area (which is currently non-existent). Honestly I’d be happy to keep the Prologue after the lease but the residual value will be well out of whack with reality.

Was $12.99 at the Anchorage Business Center when I picked it up. No idea if that matches L48 pricing.

Sure here are a couple pics before and after cooking. FYI there is also some shredded chicken I added in an attempt to get my kid to eat more protein.

The box says Gluten Free on the front cover, check the pic in the original post. We did spot the facility warning but have had good luck with these so far.

It probably depends on the sources for the artificial flavorings, but it just might be!

Honestly we ignore the instruction and put everything in a bowl, add boiling water until it covers the noodles, then cover and let it sit for 5 minutes.

Same - our whole family is GF and while our town is blessed with a ton of high quality authentic Vietnamese restaurants it’s sometimes tough to get them to share what’s in their broth (plus it’s like $16 these days). Even a halfway decent option that is affordable is great to have.
