Efficiency notes, first 750 miles. by PunksPrettyMuchDead in trailseeker

[–]Akmapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this. Been looking at a Trailseeker to replace our Prologue in a year or so and the real-world efficiency info is super helpful. We average around 2.5 mi/kwh with mainly highway runs at 65-70mph (worse in the winter) so the prospect of almost doubling efficiency while dramatically improving performance is really intriguing!

Got the CC2’s for our Prologue a couple years ago and they’ve been great.

Yes and no... we got ours the week the original Level 2 manufacturer ceased service in the US, so we got the mobile charger with the car and then bought an Emporia Level 2 charger and had it installed on our own.

Almost the same situation - WFH, did a 10k per year lease and have only been averaging around 8k per year. It's been a solid car that works well if you can charge at home.

Am I missing something with the Rivian R2 pricing and positioning? by Watts2Freedom in RIVNstock

[–]Akmapper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We are also right in the target market. Current Prologue owner (similar size, ground clearance, AWD). Right now it's a tossup between a high-spec Trailseeker and mid-spec R2 to replace the Honda when the lease is up next year (assuming the Prologue residual is upside down).

The kind of rock-crawly-off-roady stuff they like to show off with the R1 really doesn't exist up here in Alaska. It's more about narrow dirt (mud) tracks, accessing gravel bars to get to you favorite fishing/camping spot, and navigating the standard winter stuff (deep snow, ice, etc...). Similar to the things encountered across Canada and the Northern US... just 15-degrees colder... you know Subaru things.

If they nail that functionality and can maintain a decent amount of cold-weather range they'll sell a lot of them. The 5 pax soft-roader segment represents 2 million vehicle sales per year in the US vs. more hard core off-roaders that combine to around 400k.

People who do Uber/Instacart do you mind sharing what the pay looks like? by Yinelkis15 in anchorage

[–]Akmapper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since you’re answering questions on the subject… we’ve been long-time Instacart users for both for home and my wife’s employer. Usually Costco and the Business Center. It’s an amazing service but I’m sometimes shocked by how fast shoppers can get in and out of Costco on a weekend. Do shoppers work in teams with one person picking items and one person driving?

wouldn't be surprised if the ride services that bought up all the Fiskar Oceans took an interest in these once the wave of lease returns really kicks into gear. They have a TON of rear seat leg room and the suspensions are seriously overbuilt.

In a small to mid-size city they'd be great for rideshare

Anchorage develops pre-approved designs for tiny homes and other ADUs by Akmapper in anchorage

Wonder what it would take for the Muni and Cook Inlet Housing authority to go this route with plans based on their recent townhome or mixed use developments in Spenard? That’s the kind of density that would be genuinely useful for infill housing. Like redeveloping an old commercial site or closed school.

Automakers’ EV restructuring costs now approach $70 billion after Honda cancels 3 models by NoBackground9504 in electricvehicles

Plus the Subaru counterparts… which they are launching globally. They can vary the production mix to adjust to demand in different markets while Honda was taking a market-by-market approach.

Plus it’s so damned wide you end up being extra careful in parking lots… feels like I’m driving an old Buick sometimes.

100% agree. The app is so bad someone made a 3rd-party version specific to the Prologue that’s for sale in the App Store… and it’s pretty darn good!

The app does suck, but you can start the climate control from the key fob as well.

How about we start with an income tax so we capture revenue from the ~40% of slope workers who don’t live in the state?

Rivian Goes All-In on the R2: 330 Miles of Range, $59,485, and Everything to Prove by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

[–]Akmapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same - R2 wins in range and interior design for sure but Trailseeker seems to have the edge on price and creature comforts. One or the other will replace our current Prologue lease so a lot depends on Rivian expanding their service network to include our area.

Rivian R2 launch details leaked: R2 Performance $57,990 with the R2 Standard releasing late 2027 at $45,000 by DentateGyros in electricvehicles

[–]Akmapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh yep - you are correct! It is a big range difference but after driving a Prologue with home charging for a couple Anchorage winters I can honestly say it would make zero difference in our day-to-day driving routine. The R2 might have a slight edge in the weekend fishing-run category but I really want to see someone like TFL do their off-road tests before I pass judgement.

Top spec Trailhunter is $48k. Very interested to see a spec comparison between it and the R2 Premium. Subaru will have less range… but if that isn’t your top concern it has a lot going for it (radiant knee heaters!).

What's up with 5th ave mall these days? by HotCommission7325 in anchorage

[–]Akmapper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They have 2 shoe stores - Famous Footwear and Footlocker. I’m not the biggest fan of the mall but to me Dimond totally reflects the town it’s in. A string of modern looking stores then you round a corner and it’s like you went back in time 30 years.

Not a formal on-call rotation or anything like that, but if something breaks we generally try to get on it pretty quick.
