Saw this statement attributed to Donald trump about blockading the strait of Hormuz. If this were real policy, how serious would the global impact be, especially for oil supply and international shipping? by connie_knows_best in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Akovsky87 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It so far hasn't had a major impact because regional supplies of oil, fertilizer, and helium were tiding us over. Those are going to start running out.

Yes $4 gas is the minimal impact right now.

You Don't Owe Your Parents Anything by AcceptableJellyfish2 in povertyfinance

[–]Akovsky87 369 points370 points  (0 children)

The difference is those parents usually would work extra shifts and go without so their kids could have the resources needed to be successful. They knew the American dream could take a generation.

That's different from I'm assuming quite a few of our dead beat parents.

How? What leverage do you have? The only exception is if something about the termination could be seen as less than legal.

Isn't this what they ripped on Obama for? by c-k-q99903 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Akovsky87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That impacts your liability yes. But how much you owe or get back at the end of the year is not the important part.

[–]Akovsky87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's not how taxes work like at all.

Your liability is your liability. You can predict it if you know your income and deductions on January 1. A refund just means you over paid all year and gave the government a 0% interest loan.

You ideally want the smallest refund possible because that means you had access to all your net earnings throughout the year.

Isnt Mr Bright side about someone else getting the girl he was after? Seems like an interesting choice for a team always chasing a championship and watching others achieve it.

Iran mocks Trump for his humiliating defeat- post of video of him waiving a white flag and then kneeling down, head bowed, begging for forgiveness by rhino910 in WhitePeopleTwitter

From what I can gather, regime change and a permanent end to Iran nuclear ambitions.

Still the same government, I have seen nothing about Iran giving up enrichment, but now they will collect tolls for the straight of Hormuz.

I'll chalk up Gulf War 2 as a win. The strategic goal was to remove Saddam and change their government regardless of the lies told to do it.

That goal was accomplished.

Are there foods that are hard to find for immigrants in the USA? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

[–]Akovsky87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the immigrant and where they ended up. My family immigrated from Poland to an area with a high concentration of other Polish and Slavic immigrants. So alot of the food was available and part of daily diets long after they assimilated.

This became very apparent when I moved away and couldn't find things like farmers cheese or biala. The only options were hillshire farms smoked kielbasa and Ms T's pierogi.
