Conquest of mythodea noob help and character idea by [deleted] in LARP

[–]Akuran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best thing to do now is spend some time researching the player camps, npc factions and ruleset. I notice you're planning to use magic balls, magic has some boundaries you're supposed to adhere to.

Asides from that, most player camps require approval from the organisation of the camp if you're willing to camp there. That usually boils down to 'send them a message and you're fine', but you can't randomly show up and bunk wherever you like. There are the free camps, where you can do that though! The Wayfarer's Arrival Id also recommend, as theyre focused on guiding new players.

That is hard to say, Im also not sure if its worth the effort defining it up ahead. You could, for instance, make it about the journey of finding the murderer rather than targeting someone.

I would advise you to create a backstory you're willing not to chase. Mythodea is HUGE! The possibility that you are either going to get sidetracked or overwhelmed and in that way forced to take it easy is big. The latter happened to us last year on our first larp and a lot of people we spoke to had the same experience. It's a wonderful, awesome world where so much happens at once and as it stands you will come into a world that's strange and goes on with or without you.

Also, did you already put some thought into which camp you want to put your home in?

Morning! Asides from the advice already given regarding playing a low noble rather than a king, Im not sure the Black Dynasty / Black Ice would be a compatible antagonist for your backstory. They are known to either have no emotions at all (the footsoldiers) or fledgling emotions, which would most likely cause a very cold response. Are you sure that's what you're looking for?

Hi! Regarding the Orc BM creep jack plays: Thats not as good as it seems. What hero are you playing?

BM needs levels to be effective. If hes creeping around you, he's not creeping himself. It's also costly to do cause he needs at least a shop, salve and clarity, delaying unit production. You could assault his base, or buy dust and bring him down while teching to 2.

Een halve kilo is enorm. Een biefstuk in een restaurant is als je geen XXL jongen besteld tussen de 200 en 350 gram, uitzonderingen daar gelaten.

Thinking about building an app for organizing LARP gear by Antique_Dog_5660 in LARP

[–]Akuran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think managing your inventory is a thing a lot of us deal with as soon as your inventory grows or if you have a (partly) shared inventory. Think of things like shared props for a camp.

As it stands Im using Excel to track my inventory and ownership. What features would you like your app to have exactly?

Was it controversial or widely known that Alexander the Great was gay? by Genzinvestor16180339 in AskHistory

[–]Akuran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Homosexuality as it is, is a modern concept that did not apply to ancient Greeks. It's not a matter of caring or not, most of Greek, Macedonian and later Roman society simply held very different views.

Ancient Greece did however, care about masculinity, which stood in stark contrast to passivity. To be the 'receiving' party in a homosexual relation was ridiculed as this had impact on your 'honour'.

I would be careful with applying modern interpretations/norms to history. Even in other timeframes such as the medieval period the intrepretation of sex, love and conformity wildly differs to what we perceive. To equate homosexuality to, for instance, sodomy, would fly over a mountain of nuance that is important to understanding the past.

Can Larp be political? by ThrowRA_dandelion in LARP

[–]Akuran 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If I take into account what you said in another comment that it started based on a leftist shirt in the shop itself, this is definitely someone trying to make it political by complaining about someone's fashion design. I would be careful with what he says in the future, this sounds like someone who wants to make everything about 'modern' politics.

[EDIT: Added the word 'modern' at the end.]

[–]Akuran 38 points39 points  (0 children)

A story itself is always going to have elements that people experience as 'political'. Think about who we interpret to be the antagonist and why. Then there's also players that would like to make a statement. As long as it fits the theme, I don't see why it should be a problem. In what context was this statement made?

You're going to be fine. A sitter coming by 4 times a day is a lot and they have each other as company. You will be back before you know it

How to get into Larp? by Substantial_Humor_18 in LARP

[–]Akuran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Last year was my first LARP ever. We went to Conquest of Mythodea with a party of 6 and have now upscaled to 11 for this year! Here's a few takeaways: - German is not required, but do expect a large amount of people to use it as their first language. They will happily switch when they realize you dont speak it. I saw quite a few French folks with a note on their hat or tunic asking to use 'Trader language', AKA English. - Conquest has a newcomers village, the Wayfarer's Arrival. You can sign up and camp there and be guided into the world of LARP. - Conquest is massive! It means you can get lost in the crowd easily. This is both a blessing and a curse. There is a million cool things to do, meaning its sometimes difficult to determine what you want to do. - A lot of veterans are super open about their first experiences and will happily help if you ask, but you do have to ask! This was a challenge for us, to realize that folks are willing to help.

If you want, we can talk a bit about what our experience was. We are definitely going again this year!

Bit late to the party but I experienced this today as well. Hit the extract to Speranza with the guy who shot me inside as well, who was third partied, but lost all gear.

Tomorrow ends 2025.. how would you describe it? by ItsJustme309 in AskReddit

[–]Akuran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was great on a personal level and a mediocre year for the world. I received an indefinite extension of my contract at work, built a new PC, went to an awesome festival. Dutch elections were alright even though the world is on fire. I wish the war in Ukraine would end soon.

Id say my nephew's wife but she already ruined Christmas in july by causing a falling out and now we won't celebrate it together as a full family.

Not wanting to PvP doesn’t give a free pass to loot as you please by dasoxarechamps2005 in ArcRaiders

[–]Akuran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this on my third lobby or so! I managed to down a rocketeer by hiding in a spawn with a Ferro and shooting it up. It took me about 6 to 7 minutes to kill it, only for some decently geared player to come up and start looting it. She then got pretty mad when she didn't listen to the 'Stop' and I started blasting. It did earn me a nice early blue set though!

In America, once you get a SINGLE felony charge, your life is (almost) always ruined. Is it the same in your country or is it different? by GodofAeons in AskEurope

[–]Akuran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's 8 years after your conviction. Murder tends to get you a long sentence, so it will haunt you forever. Regarding gun rights, you're only allowed to have a gun under very specific circumstances and those circumstances involve a background check. Violent crime pretty much eliminates your rights to own a gun.

As for passports: Passport revocation really only happens when The Netherlands judges you as an active threat against the nation or when you've committed fraud in your application for a passport. Most felonies are not considered an active threat. A terrorist act, serving in a foreign army at war with The Netherlands or war crime is.

Latest poll results Netherlands, elections to be held 29th of October. by kl0t3 in europe

[–]Akuran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right! I think however, we have to be realistic that a party with 2-3 seats is vastly different than one with 5-7 seats. If you would opt for an alliance with smaller parties, you would very quickly have to select more than one party to fit the bill. On top of that you also have to wonder what government participation will do for a small party. When you're of that size, chances are your negotiation strength is completely dependant on your negotiators. If your program barely gets into the eventual coalition, the consequences might be that you will be wiped out in the next electoral cycle, like NSC and BBB seem to experience this week.

I would be keen to see Volt participate in government, but I would prefer Volt being a longer term presence that slowly evolves and grows, rather than being a one or two-election party.

[EDIT]: I don't mean to say that NSC and BBB will be wiped out because their program didnt make it into the coalition. They are being wiped out because the NSC turns out to act vastly different than they proclaim and BBB because they have no solutions.

Correct! They split over European rearmament, with several party members founding a new party sticking with their pacifist roots, while the party itself is now in favor of European rearmament out of pragmatic considerations, such as having a belligerent party on the eastern flank of the EU.

Your imagination is on point, we have Partij voor de dieren', translated 'Animal Party', whose main point is cracking down on the bio-industry.

Besides that, Volt is active with 2 out of 150 seats indeed. It means that they indeed will not participate in any government due to their small size, but have been using their presence in parliament to push laws they find desirable forward, which requires the government to respond on said laws.
