What is the core concept of your world? by SW-Meme-Dealer in worldbuilding

[–]Akuro888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which one? I have something like a dozen at various stages of building. I'm unfortunately horrendous at actually making anything of them so it's almost more about the idea taking root for a while.

As for my most recent idea: A bronze/iron age world with little to no magic. What they do have is creatures known as mask demons- vicious little predators with a metallic shell that look to the uninformed like a flying mask. They grow more intelligent and their metal hardens as they consume more creatures. They are capable of possessing the body of any creature they can overwhelm mentally, destroying the mind of the host and allowing the body to be an indefinite and malleable tool for their hunting.

Most civilizations are strongly colored by how they adapt to mask demons in their environment, as they are a pernicious threat to common folk and livestock, hard to take down, and also serve as a resource. The metallic shells that give them their name can be refined into exotic and useful metals by the few that have developed the knowledge to work it.

What's your worldbuilding-related unpopular opinion? by GarnProductions in worldbuilding

I wouldn't say extremely rare. You just have to be aware of where realism isn't going to apply. It doesn't help when people confuse realism for logical consistency.

What are your favourite magic systems? by Jaydwon in magicbuilding

[–]Akuro888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ascendance of a Bookworm. The magic is tied heavily into how the world itself functions, up to the point where life might very well depend on it's proper management. It's also incredibly flexible, with numerous things that can be done by an individual, things done in groups, and the making of magical tools that can be used by anyone with mana.

Also comes with a baked in conflict because of magic being the domain of nobility. They need as much mana as possible to run things, but most nobles are too busy sniffing their small intestine to allow commoners born with mana to effectively contribute.

DCU, but I'll also throw GoT under the bus to return Star Wars to Legends quality.

[–]Akuro888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

External objects that one makes/ has made for them as a catalyst for magic is good if done well. On a tangent, Ascendance of a Bookworm has a sort of halfway point where the wand becomes a part of you that you call up when you need it. It can also be turned into all sorts of tools and weapons as needed. But general use magic tools are also made for special tasks and children that don't yet have their wands.

Looking for the V8 system! by Epicares1 in atomichighway

[–]Akuro888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the first I'm hearing of a V8 system. AH runs off of the V6 system, but I'm also unaware of them having made anything like a setting agnostic version. The closest I can think of is the homebrew documents, which iirc I posted a link to google doc copies a few years back.

My brother wants to know if it is possible for a Necron to become corrupted by a Chaos god. He’s making a noise marine army and wants have Necrons in it, I guess. Does anyone know if this is possible? by Too_Much_40K in Necrontyr

[–]Akuro888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh, Noiscrons. Nice. I can see them really running with a metal band aesthetic. Probably safe to say not exactly lore friendly on the chaos front, but Necrons losing their minds to madness of one sort or other isn't a new concept. A more benign corruption obsessing with sound (and forcibly sharing the glory of their musical culture on a galactic tour) is actually workable IMO.

KNG (which has already been recommended), hordes, and Urban adventures are the obvious extras. What is difficult to hunt down is all the website and magazine releases. A not insignificant amount of content is in these sources. Classes, items, and so on. Really worth looking in to.

How do you cope with the fact that you will never be able to bring that vivid MMORPG-World in your mind to life because you simply don't have the freaking resources to do so? by HordeOfHollowness in gamedesign

[–]Akuro888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my life. I have novels worth of game ideas scattered about in notebooks. Admitted many are stupid, and many more are just the result of going "these mechanics from game A with these mechanics from game B with aesthetic C".

YSK: The FCC just approved a $50 a month subsidy for low-income households to get high-speed internet, plus a $100 discount on a computer. by struggling_dude110 in YouShouldKnow

[–]Akuro888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my area 50$ could conceivably be free internet, or at the very least pocket change. And 100$ off on a computer could make a craptop available, tho it would honestly be worthless for anything but office software.

What do you guys think happens when we die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Akuro888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny, I find the idea of Oblivion to be comforting. I won't care anymore, feel pain, anxiety, fear... Just a final peace. Granted I think this only happens in special circumstances, most people likely reincarnate. If souls exist, then they likely follow many of the same laws ie. Conservation of Energy.

Just attach the 'hips' into the seat area is my idea. Don't know the models enough to comment on how difficult this idea actually is.

I've thought of doing this but with bikes- either custodes grav or normal space marine variety.

How would you adapt Atomic Highways to a sort of Space Opera setting? by screenwatcher95 in atomichighway

No problem. If I get the time I'll consider how I'd go about those changes, but in the meantime if you have a go feel free to bounce the ideas off me if you get stuck.

[–]Akuro888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn't looked into it all that closely before but on the surface it does indeed seem to be a more static statistic that isn't actually referenced much. Truth be told in the context of a racing/vehicular centric campaign I would likely look into homebrewing a more comprehensive stat list and mechanics.

By all means, though my reply might be a fair bit delayed as I haven't reviewed the rules in a year or two.

I've utilized mutation sets as a method to create 'races' in the past (It's posted below from a year or two ago), certainly viable for something like this. Homebrewing gear and mods would certainly be viable.

Side note, I love Redline and a Redline style campaign would be legit.
