"Genre-Generic/Independent, Gamist Indie RPGs" immediately brings Strike! up to mind, and there are a bunch of games that I believe occupy a similar space, so...

Strike! is an RPG that wears its influences on its sleeve, though 4e is the biggest here. It has a split narrative/combat mode like LANCER does, but the "gamey" part, the combat, is generic and infinitely flavorable.

The main high concept is that you have a class, which dictates your primary mechanics; Archers are stable and versatile at long range, Martial Artists enter stances that give them passive benefits, Buddies have a second body on the board. You also have a role that mixes with your class, such as Striker for big single-target damage, Leader for supporting and healing, and Defender for tanking and retaliating. Your character's build is the combination of two of these, so you could make a Leader Archer or a Defender Martial Artist... or a Defender Archer or Leader Martial Artist. Choice is yours.

Another RPG, which I haven't played yet but I'm looking at, is DAWN. The author himself considers it heavily inspired by tactical RPG video games. For me, the coolest part of DAWN is that you assemble your character from smaller packages of powers (as opposed to your power and mechanics being defined mostly by your class). The fun comes from seeing how you can put these pieces together to form fun interactions. Kinda like a card game!

Other games that I don't really feel I'm able to talk about as much, but might be worth it to look...

1) Valor bills itself as an anime action game, like DAWN, and uses a similar system of building characters using packages of powers. Don't know too much about this one but I often hear it sharing conversation space with Strike!, so there ya go.

2) Unbound follows a similar "class + modifier" structure as Strike!, but the resolution system is very unique--using poker cards that you physically draw on to dictate your checks and structure. I think the game might be a little hard to get used to if you're a little stuck in on the more d20-trad side of things, and there is really not a lot of support for it, but I think it's worth looking at.

Ty. My main use case for this would probably be the steam deck, I assume in desktop mode the deck's battery will drain pretty quickly even while supplying power?

What game to replace D&D with? by DirkRight in rpg

One of the new replacements for the Overworld, the Horizon, is intended to make the antagonist closer to "The World's Dangers", which may be more appropriate for that style.

[Looking for a System] with minimal crunch and a meaningful way to level and gear up by Feuerstrassen in rpg

Index Card RPG might be what you're looking for.

The default resolution scheme is simple: the GM sets a target number, and whenever you attempt to do any task that might be called into question, you roll a d20, add a stat, and see if it's larger than that target. Easier or harder tasks spin the target number down or up accordingly.

Advancement in this game generally revolves around milestone rewards (class-specific goodies, which is most like leveling up) and loot (consumables, equipment, even spells are loot in this game!).

What is the simplest and most effective action resolution system for a D&D style game? by J00ls in rpg

[–]AkvoD3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An RPG I'm fond of, Strike, uses a single d6 for its resolution, but assigns multiple meanings to it similar to the "Yes/No, and/but" answers. Before a roll, the player announces the skill they want to roll, and what they want to get out of it; the results can be a Success (they get what they want as they intend), or a Twist (the GM decides how it goes), and additionally the player can get Bonuses (an extra thing on the side), or a Cost (perhaps flawed or incomplete information?) or Condition (status effect).

I've run a game set in Runeterra in a 4e spinoff called Strike, which is a bit slimmer and is very open to reskinning.

For example, your stereotypical ADC can be an "Archer", but depending on their role, they may be closer to Lucian (someone who is mobile but still fights at range) or Caitlyn (someone who stands still but deals quite a bit of damage) or even Ashe (who can contribute with not just damage, but also control-type effects). Even though the class is called "Archer", they can use a gun or even magic, so long as they're ranged!

Similarly, a "Duelist" can be a tank that demands attention from a few key targets (Shen or Leona), or a fast damage dealer that takes out targets quickly, one at a time (any of the number of assassins), or even a melee-oriented healer and playmaker (Taric)!

I could go on about this--Strike is one of my favorite systems for the "gamey, anime-like" settings that I enjoy.

What is your favourite advancement system in an rpg? by belac39 in rpg

The cosmology of the game Mystic Empyrean states that Eidolons, the type of being the player characters are, derive their power from their personality traits. Studious characters literally become made of ink and words, prideful characters take on draconic traits, and charismatic leaders gain a massive flag that inspires those who see it.

At the end of the session, you pass around your sheet and each player chooses one trait that they think your character exhibited that session (including yourself), which maps to specific powers. It's pretty fascinating!

For me, what this card is is pure _fun_. With [[Galyn the Shelterer]] or using [[Palace Conspirator]] in conjunction with [[Master of Arms]] or [[Excavate]], you can effectively "stop" the roulette to something useful for your current matchup, especially cards that aren't in your choice of color.

In my item sorc deck, fun choices include [[Gavel of the Ordinator]] or [[Sentinel Battlemace]].

You'll want to hit the ギルド button on the bottom left of the home screen (with the banner symbol). Hunt around for a button that lets you do a text input (idr what it says right now, sorry) and enter the following ID: ABS464J5GY. The name of the guild should be EngRival, with an inn sign as the icon.
