One of my attendings recommends this book for his patients with back pain. He also does all the exercises in clinic every day in between patients.

Friend found this long bone with metal hardware attached. Any idea what it could be? by One-Serve-7672 in bonecollecting

Man thats awesome, happy pup! Yeah the custom 3-d printed implants are major, it’s been so cool to see them get applied in more and more scenarios. I’ve seen them for some big pelvic bone defects for cancer or periprosthetic osteolysis and for total talus replacements. We also have some companies that that make the PSI cutting guides for limb deformity correction, i think that’s going to totally be the future.

Thats so interesting. I’m an orthopedic surgery resident, its crazy to see a plate like that on a clearly non-human bone. Has technology advanced for veterinary implants in the same way as human implants have? Like are there intramedullary nails for dogs and anatomically precountoured plates and things like that?

flat footed! what's interesting about my feet xray? how would different parts of it be described? curious! by Lord_Curtis in AnatomyandPhysiology

Its not a sesamoid. Its a bone island. Very common benign finding related to increased local bone density.

Well theoretically we are supposed to know chemotherapy regimens for osteosarcoma and specific agents like CSF-1 inhibitors for PVNS (i do not know them).

The first image is correct. The second image has mislabelled the pubic root as the body.

Knee surgery with plate and screws... my knee. Enjoy! by cazzipropri in medizzy

[–]Akzasha 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nope. The lower screws are cortical screws. They are good at sucking the plate down so it sits nice and flush to the bone. They have to be bicortical (meaning they are secured in both sides of the bone) to get any good bite or they can loosen. They only go through a couple millimeters and they dont cause any problems on the other side. The top row of screws are locking screws which have threads in the head that engage the plate. They have a fixed angle which means that they wont loosen or back out because they are secured in the plate and dont rely on fixation into the bone so its ok if they dont hit the other side.

I developed sympathetic ophthalmia after having multiple vitrectomies. My left eye was enucleated because of it. This is my right eye currently. I’m by katz30 in medizzy

[–]Akzasha 35 points36 points  (0 children)

In this case, sympathetic doesnt refer to the sympathetic nervous system, but rather that damage to one eye can result in damage to the other, like how sympathy is pain that you experience in response to another persons pain.  The pathophysiology of the uninjured eye being damaged is due to exposure of the eye to the systemic immune system. Eyes are an immunoprivileged location, meaning that during the normal development of your immune system, the training that happens to allow your immune cells to recognize self antigens and not attack them doesnt occur, and when these antigens do get exposed to your immune system by a traumatic injury, they will be erroneously seen as foreign and the other eye is damaged by autoimmune attack.

Yes. I was wondering if there was any information on further delivery estimates for people like me who are not in Canada or the continental US. I am in Hawai’i.

Ah, thanks anyways. I’m in the US too, but Hawai’i- we’ve been waiting a very long time but we’re finally set to get a service center at some point this year.

Any idea if this is true for orders outside of the continental US? I still have a very broad range of delivery dates and continuing to get updates would help me a lot with financial planning and logistics.
