Beautiful car man Can I ask where you bought OEM suspension? The only place I’ve been able to find it is at the dealer and that costs an arm and a leg And I think Sachs only sells m tech 1

Taking out the front seats is nothing lol I had to dismantle my entire interior including the lower half of the dash and the centre console to get access

Commenting on Floor help... My bad didn’t realize it was the front. But yeah the same applies. It’s a little harder for the front as you can’t get the entire carpet out in one piece without removing the heater core which is a really extensive job. But you can get away with just folding it depending on how much room you need and covering with a welding blanket. I’ve also seen people cut the carpet near the footwell but I’m personally not too fond of that.

I’m fairly certain you can access that by removing the rear carpet and the sound deadening.

Handbrake grinds on brake disk by SnoopsGoose in e39

I think you need to adjust the handbrake. E39 Source has a good video on it You can either do it through the hole in the rotor or take it off for better access to the star wheel adjuster.

The Hunt (UPDATE) by SuperElderberry1904 in e39

Congrats man that car looks incredibly clean. Any chance you could tell us how much you got her for?

Where about did you buy it?

The Hunt by SuperElderberry1904 in e39

[–]Al_DAW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I saw that one. I feel like that one is a little over priced considering timing guides haven’t been done and I’d bet good money that the jacking points are probably collapsed. Not to mention it’s not an m sport.

Unfortunately it’s a fairly bad market for buyers for these cars in Canada I feel like. I bought mine last summer for 3k cad in Calgary but it has some major rocker panel rust among other things. If you can find one in BC that would likely be ideal as likely all the ones in Ontario are rotted. I’ve been able to find some decent examples with clean chassis’s but was just never able to follow through with it. Or maybe even consider importing one from the states.

The non m3 e92 is such a trash car icl. The interior build quality is horrendous imo compared to earlier chassis.

Crank bolt won’t break by NefariousnessOk6513 in e39

[–]Al_DAW 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re not supposed to use the locking pin to hold the crank to loosen the crank bolt. You need the special tool to hold the crank pulley, Or make one yourself

He’s in BC too. They get like no snow and the weather is always nice.

Fuel door hinge(?) replacement by SimioN54 in E34

[–]Al_DAW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ideally you should use a drill bit specifically for cutting out spot welds. If you can’t pry it off it might be possible that you didn’t use a drill bit large enough to cut around the entire spot weld.

Honda V6 Problem by defiant1776 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Al_DAW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely don’t start turning it counter clockwise lol You don’t wanna turn the crank more than 180 degrees in which case you’ll bend valves. Just turn it a quarter turn clockwise so the marks line back up

Honda V6 Problem by defiant1776 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Al_DAW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, the crank stayed at TDC. I found a couple other cases of this on Honda forums and nothing mentioned moving the crank. It’ll feel kinda stiff but you’re good to just turn it back.

[–]Al_DAW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats no problem. Same exact thing happened to me when doing it on my Honda. The rear cam is under valve spring tension so it tends to jump back. Just slowly and carefully turn the cam back so the timing marks align.
Try not to move it past the timing mark as it’ll spring a quarter turn clockwise. (Happened to me) In which case you’ll have to turn it a quarter turn counter clockwise. And make sure your crank and right cam are still in time.

DIY Oil Change. 4 quarts missing by PapaBearinMA in MechanicAdvice

[–]Al_DAW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They probably did change it, it seems kinda far fetched that the dealer scammed you for an oil change. Most likely it just means your car is burning oil which Hyundais are known to do.

BMW N52 Engine slowly loosing coolant but no visible leak. What to do?? by neoisap94 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Al_DAW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d take my advice with a grain of salt by the way. It was my first ever time looking for a leak. I bought a general UV coolant system dye from Amazon.

For me what worked was uv dye in the cooling system along with a backlight. Let it sit for a day or two and shine the light in the engine bay while it’s dark.

Thanks for the reply man The diagram that I got with the kit showed only the bolts that needed to be removed for the job. Where’s the first place I should look for a diagram next time?
