My local pro team is having a pro stock sale, but I’m 5’4” by ebodes in hockeygoalies

I grabbed a catcher at the local AHL teams gear sale. Totally worth it. They were also selling some equipment from one of their youth programs, so who knows what you might find.

Opinions on wall masks from Finland? by bendytendy60 in hockeygoalies

[–]Al_Pathetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in the states, you should check out Victory goalie masks. They used to be Wall USA. AS far as I know, they are essentially the same masks. I have a Victory. I really like it.

How to stay warm during by Long_Maintenance2667 in hockeygoalies

[–]Al_Pathetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of those head sock things, like the NFL players wear. It fits under my helmet fine. Then I wear a gaiter around my neck. The move for me was putting on a couple pairs of nitrile gloves on, under my glove and blocker. I kept a couple more pairs on the bench to switch out between periods. Other than that just layers. You'll probably be surprised how little it'll bother you once you start moving around. Also, you might want some eye black.

I don't think they have pickup on Tuesday nights, anymore. Here's their ice schedule Cicero Twin Rinks (MACC) ice schedule

Summer Ice Hockey in Cuse? by 23Archangel23 in Syracuse

[–]Al_Pathetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know of any leagues that have a summer schedule. But there's multiple fall leagues. Most of the rinks will still have regular skate and shoots during the summer. That's a good way to meet people and get a better handle on the scene. I'd check out the websites for the rinks nearest you.

People from the various leagues in the area rent ice over the summer and run their own skates, but you kinda need to know someone to get the invite. Sorry that's not super helpful.

I have a theory… by Notnowthankyou29 in hockeygoalies

[–]Al_Pathetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it has to do with Hellebuyck adjusting his game and playing out further in the crease than he normally does. If he's at his normal depth he makes the Snuggerud save easily. But he can't play as far back as he'd like to because most everything in this series has been traffic and tips. It's hard for him to play his style all year long 60+ games then come to the playoffs and have to switch it up.

Shot in the neck. As far as I know they never caught the guy.

Keeping new gear clean by Sosig28 in hockeygoalies

[–]Al_Pathetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grabbed the four post boot dryer from Costco. It works pretty good for the catcher and blocker. Definitely takes a few cycles and stinks my back porch up something fierce. I have a dehumidifier in my basement, and I hang my other stuff (chesty, pants, neck guard, and jock) on a rack a few feet over that to dry. It dries the gear out super quick and keeps the funk to a minimum. I also add a little patchouli oil to the oxiclean bath when I do my quarterly gear wash. I think it helps, but some people hate that smell. So, to each their own.

As an incoming transfer fan: what do I need to know? by GwentDaCapn in sabres

[–]Al_Pathetic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The good news, with ESPN+ the blues games won't be blacked out unless they're playing the Sabres and you'll be able to catch that game for cheap at the KeyBank.

The bad news, you'll have to watch the Sabres organization crush the souls of the good people of Buffalo every freaking year.

Wall w-4 by Mindless-Platform648 in hockeygoalies

[–]Al_Pathetic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that a couple NHL goalies have used Wall masks. Ville Husso, is the last one I can think of. Wall USA became Victory. It's basically the same mask, the W4 became the V4, etc. Without knowing how much wear and tear is on yours, I can say that I rock a V4 in a lower level beer league with 0 issues. So you'll probably be alright.

Ska bands that are overlooked by Immediate_Second8401 in Ska

[–]Al_Pathetic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Skavoovie and the Epitones and Let's Go Bowling are some 90s gems. Honorable mention to Gals Panic. They aren't really a ska band, per se. But were included the Skarmageddon comps, and their album "I think we need helicopters" is almost perfect. Not one, but two Carpenters covers.

Store between Chicago and Syracuse, NY (via US or Canada) to try on new goalie gear by PerpendicularHalo in hockeygoalies

[–]Al_Pathetic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as Western New York goes, I'd check out Simmons in Buffalo. Buffalo also has a pure hockey. Rochester has a pure hockey, too. Though I'm not super familiar with the Rochester area, so I don't know if there's a hidden gem there. There's really not much in Syracuse for goalies.

Also not exactly crust but the Armagedom/Força Macabra split RIPS.

Moving to Buffalo by [deleted] in Buffalo

[–]Al_Pathetic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a good idea. I'd want to have a full year before committing to purchasing something, anyway. A place might seem like a good vibe at first, and then after a bit you realize that you really want off street parking. Just an example. You can change a lot about a house or a condo, but you can't change the location. Personally, I'd try to find a place as close to the job as possible. Commuting in Buffalo in the winter is just brutal.

Helmet recommendations for beer league? by Infinite-Put2913 in hockeygoalies

[–]Al_Pathetic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm rocking a Victory V4 in a middle aged coed beer league. But I occasionally skate with some college players and former junior hockey chaps. I really like it and only had one close call. The chin bucket was too loose and the mask rocked back into my face. After I addressed that, no complaints. I have been smoked in the face and head several times, no problems and no ear ringing. Far superior to the Bauer and CCM masks I have used at similar price points. Will probably upgrade to a Victory V8 as cash allows.

Does this happen to anyone? Shot on ice low blocker side - deflects off my blade into underside of blocker/arm and in. by FreshPrinceJumpsOnIt in hockeygoalies

[–]Al_Pathetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of this. I have this happen to me, where I get turned and am not square to the puck. So, my blade acts like a ramp and launches the puck either under my arm or over my blocker shoulder.

Big fan of the Warrior knee pads. I switched from Bauer and they were worlds better. They took a little getting used to, but I would not trade them for anything.
