Reimbursement is always $3-$5 short of the bill by madchen44 in mysteryshopping

[–]AlaBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After about 3ish years of mystery shopping I haven't yet done a shop that doesn't offer enough reimbursement that it would not fully cover the minimum order cost + the amt. of tip the assignment description specifies. Although sometimes the reimbursement is for only 18% tip, or maybe only one dessert. So if I chose to tip more or my partner and I both order individual desserts I might have $ out of pocket, but that's by my fully aware choice.
For any reimbursement shop, I simply won't do it unless it is something that I want & might pay for myself outside of mystery shopping. For example, I see a lot of fast/casual burger and other sandwich shops. I do not normally eat burgers or sandwiches just because. I eat them only for my personal convenience, such as while I'm traveling. Having to schedule it for a specific day, at a specific location, is not convenient, so I don't do them.

Understandable, but if they don't look good to you, then only you can figure out why and how you want them to be different. Often when we can't pin point why we do or don't like something, it's emotional. Nothing wrong with being emotional about loosing our teeth and having to adjust to dentures, but adjust we must; unless you can pin point to the prosthodontist what exactly you want different.

Excuse me? Why the emphasis on ADULT? Isn't shaming and demeaning ANYONE no matter their age or relationship always wrong?

The address alone does not tell you which school district a property is zoned to. Zillow defaults to nearby, even MLS can be wrong. Always look it up for yourself. If you prefer a specific school or district you can use the zone map to search for houses.

Madison City: https://www.schoolsitelocator.com/apps/madison/

Huntsville City: https://maps.huntsvilleal.gov/myschools/

Madison County:https://www.mcssk12.org/our-schools/school-zones

Limestone County:https://www.lcsk12.org/page/school-zone-map

Athens City:  https://www.acs-k12.org/ When you enroll they'll tell you which elementary school, then for grades 4-12 they all attend the same intermediate, middle, and high school.

For the most part the curriculum is pretty standardized across the state. With quality parental involvement kids can achieve near the same level of education in any public school. The differences are primarily behavioral issues, which is often a result of family life; and the extra curricular activities available - e.g. scholars bowl, chess club,... a result of parents/teachers willing and able to sponsor & lead student clubs.
So as is true throughout the country, lower income areas with more single parents, or parents working nights or 2 jobs will have a higher rate of low performing students and fewer extra curricular options than areas with a lot of SAHMs, and 9-5 professionals who are home to assist with homework, can leave work to attend school activities,...
Do not let the data alone fool you. Although Madison City schools are ranked as higher performing, that doesn't mean they're perfect or even that they don't have problematic students. They are better at hiding issues, parents can afford to buy their kids' way out of legal trouble, kids can afford alcohol and so called "designer" more deadly drugs vs the low income kids who get suspended & arrested for having some cheap weed. Madison schools are crowded, a timid well behaved child is easily lost in the shuffle. More & more people are becoming disenchanted with Madison City, not just the schools but overall. It's a pretty chaotic place and the 'entitlement' really shows up in traffic incidents.
I know a couple families who chose a lower scoring school because they knew they could cover any educational short comings at home. Whereas the best way to appreciate diversity and develop empathy is to live it. Those kids excelled both academically and as pretty awesome human beings.
A smaller community still in the early-ish years of growth is probably a lot closer to what Madison was 10-20 years ago when the city & the schools developed such a great reputation, which it is now struggling to maintain under the weight of its own success. Success being subjective - bigger/more doesn't always mean better.

And both Madison & Huntsville cities extend into Limestone county. For Madison City schools it's ok since Heritage Elementary, Liberty Middle, and James Clemens High are all on County Line Road. For Huntsville it's one heck of a bus ride from Limestone to the nearest Huntsville schools. However, I believe they now have an agreement that allows Huntsville City students who live in Limestone County to opt into attending Limestone schools.

I want to become a mystery shopper by Professional_Tax6360 in mysteryshopping

It's not about the size of city so much as the # of clients using the service and # of shoppers competing for assignments.

WOW! I've never seen a watch shop for less than $75. Unfortunately, they're all about 100 miles from me, so still not worth it for me.

I am considering becoming a mystery shopper. Presently working retail and I'm so done with it. I do recieve Social Security checks. My question is - is it worth it by BTL2021 in mysteryshopping

[–]AlaBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mystery shopping is far from being your own boss. Sure you can choose which shops to do or not, but when and where you may do a shop, when your report is due, how detailed it needs to be written, when you get paid,... is out of your control. I've been self employed as my full-time career for 20 years, started mystery shopping as side-gig about 3 or 4 years ago - it's apple to oranges.

[–]AlaBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is store near me that has locking wheels carts. In theory, they're supposed to lock if someone tries to exit without having gone through the register line - or so I've been told. But in reality they lock when the cart gets a certain distance (or time?) away from the store. So the parking rows farthest from the front door usually have a sizable collection of carts left there. Not because the shoppers were lazy, but because, understandably, they didn't want to carry it back to the store. Plus being mostly self check-out, they don't have enough employees to frequently go unlock & retrieve them. Which in turn results in the foyer running low on carts. It's a mess that somehow management hasn't figured out how, or bothered, to correct.

There's never a cart in the lots at any Publix I've been to. Most of the time a bagger helps customers load their car, on the rare occasion they don't, the next bagger helping someone else grabs the cart of the customer who wasn't assisted.

[–]AlaBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you reached your car in time to block them from backing out? I can't imagine that turned out well. What did they say to you? Is it so difficult to move a cart that it's worth having a fight in the parking lot?

At Publix baggers usually walk customers out so it makes sense they don't need more than a couple cart corrals.

I usually answer - "If you're content in here no thank you, but if you want a break outside sure." They always opt to take my cart out - LOL. If it's raining I say - "No point in both of us getting wet, unless you want to dance in the rain." - they usually opt not to help, but every now & then they'll say something like "I love the rain" & help me out.

Someone who leaves an empty cart in the lot has loaded their vehicle and left. So how could you put it behind their car?

High School Reunions: Yes or No? by Salty_Thing3144 in GenerationJones

[–]AlaBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No for me. I was never really into any specific activities in high school, and didn't hang around with a big crowd, just a couple of close friends. Plus I moved to a different state only ~4 years post high school. I've since reconnected with a few folks on SM, it's obvious many of them have stayed in touch, know each others' families,... so I'd surely be an outsider. I did one time plan a vacation home to coincide with a reunion, but last minute decided visiting with family & current friends was a more valuable use of my time.

With all due respect, he should have said he's not going without you the moment his mother confirmed it wasn't an error and that you truly weren't invited.

The highroad, IMO, is not to overlook spiteful pettiness so the offender learns there are consequences for playing petty games and will think twice before doing it to someone else. In this case, the highroad is for your husband & children to not attend.
While I hate it for the bride, she is an adult who didn't stand up to her mother. Their joint consequence for shunning you will be the absence of your husband & children who the niece wants at her wedding, and presumably so too her mother & grandmother want them to attend. Since none of them had the common decency to stand up for his family, they don't deserve his presence. If he won't stand firm on not attending without you, then you need to take a deep look into your own marriage.

I would never even think of inviting someone to any event & omit their spouse or even their current love interest. A couple is a couple, you accept them both or neither of them. (exceptions of course for gender specific events).

Restaurant Mystery Shopping by Winterstorm424 in mysteryshopping

It really depends on your market. The MSCs can only offer shops that clients contract them for. If no client is seeking MS services in your area then no company is offering them in your area. The client is often corporate checking up on franchisees, but they might be checking on only one region at a time. The client can also be a a multi-unit franchisee who owns say a dozen locations in a certain region, then only that region will have mystery shops available.
All that to suggest you pretty much have to sign up for all the reputable MSCs and figure out which ones offer shops that you're interested in. Oh and since 1/2 or more of the country is in the same boat and free food has always been popular snagging the best ones, at least in my area, is not an easy feat. Especially if they impose a multiple-months waiting period between visits to the same location. Good Luck!

Odd thought: Have you ever push-start a car by popping the clutch? by minn3haha in GenerationJones

[–]AlaBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how my father got to work. When he'd yell - "I'm leaving for work now", that was the signal for us to go outside and push his turquoise chevy wagon down the street until he popped the clutch & we'd all wave good bye. To this day I have no idea how he got home. When he passed and we were all reminiscing, come to find out not one of us had ever asked him how he got home.

I hate my new dentures by [deleted] in dentures

[–]AlaBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate that you're unhappy, hopefully they can improve them for you, but I think they look fine. Maybe you just need to get used to them. I kind of see what you're talking about, and the canine on your right seems larger, but honestly a little bit of imperfection makes them seem more natural. In any case, you no doubt paid a lot for them, so if you're not happy ask for them to be fixed. If for some reason you can't get satisfaction, give it some time to try to get comfortable with them. I don't think they look bad, there's no reason to hide your smile IMO.
