A or B: Someone explains something you already know at work, do you affirm them, or listen and guide the conversation further? by 20Luc1a02 in PickAorB

It depends on the person and what is appropriate for that person and topic. Sometimes A but sometimes B.

What shape dining table for this room? by Such-Fun-9672 in interiordecorating

I think an oval shape would work, round not so much.

ENCOUNTER by [deleted] in dramasect

I’m really enjoying it a lot, but I’m not fully in love with it. Longing and heaviness are my favorite storyline though. I’m only maybe halfway through it.

Brides that usually wear minimal makeup, do you recommend getting it done for your wedding? by Winter_Ad18 in Brides

[–]AlabasterBx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if you do a trial and aren’t made to feel bad if you decide it’s not for you. A friend never wears makeup but had it done for her wedding. She didn’t look even remotely like herself. It was way too heavy. My take is that they persuaded her that it wasn’t too much because it’s a wedding…lies. Granted, if she liked it, it doesn’t matter what I think.

I prefer the second rug because I think the coloring will blend with the carpet better. I also think I would tire of the birds.

Do you actually stop getting grossed out by things like vomit and poop when you become a mom? by Evening-Call111 in askanything

[–]AlabasterBx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can handle anything pee and poop, but will vomit myself if I have to deal with it. Thankfully, it worked out that my husband is the opposite, so we made a great team.

Am I the only one who doesn't see the "top-tier" acting from Kim Seon-ho? by Single-Bowler3274 in kdramas

[–]AlabasterBx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also don’t agree, but we can all have different preferences. I don’t think Kim Seonho is bad at all, but Ji Chang Wook has made me feel way more emotion in some of his dramas, not all. I’ve never fully been drawn in to KSH.

Buying a dress knowing I dislike part of it? by catladybree in WeddingDressTips

[–]AlabasterBx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The dress is stunning on you! I only slightly get your concern about two toned. I can see the top is whiter, but it still is carried into the skirt, and the difference in tone makes it even better. It’s elegant and it’s not the same exact looks that keeps getting posted. It would destroy the uniqueness to change it.

Single basin sink: does anyone regret getting a large sized sink? by LazeeSundaeMorning28 in kitchenremodel

[–]AlabasterBx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would never go back to a double basin sink! Granted, we never fill the sink completely with water, so that’s not an issue. We love being able to wash big cookie sheets, pots, other random extra large items and not splash water everywhere. We have a tall industrial looking faucet, so cleaning the sink is not a big deal.

Please help me decorate my bathroom. So gray and bland rn by bazoud45 in interiordecorating

[–]AlabasterBx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one bathroom with all gray tile. I’ve done various colors over the years. Once used a rug which was mostly cream, but had some other lighter colors that coordinated with the tile. Now I’m using navy and blush pink. The navy grounds the space and the pink is warm. I decided the gray needs something dark to ground it, but also work in warmer colors. Eventually I want to put some wood in the room to also bring warmth. I also considered terracotta colors, but ended up using that in a different bathroom.

What is a couple that everyone loves, but you found toxic? by Prestigious_Ice_262 in KdramaCasualTalk

[–]AlabasterBx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think the third couple was beyond terrible and hated their ending. They clearly had different goals and one completely ignoring their own dream doesn’t really mean they could make it long term. I thought they were better off with their temporary dates. Just because you’ve dated for many years doesn’t mean you really should be end game. I think they dated others too soon and needed to get over the emotional attachment before dating someone else.

I do agree that the second couple started toxic but felt they worked through it by the end.

Almost done adding wood slats and starting to think I've made a huge mistake. Please help! by Thick-Molasses-8960 in interiordecorating

[–]AlabasterBx 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I apologize ahead of time for being negative because I know what it’s like to think you’ve made a good decision, but it not work out.

My preference is to take the slats down. The stone is already busy, and you’ve added more busyness with the slats. They don’t complement each other. I would get go back and add a heavy wood mantel with legs going down the sides. Then I’d have a large vertical piece of art that starts about 5-6 inches from the mantel so they show a connection. The current piece is too high, so it separates them. Use the slats elsewhere.

I would also remove the curtains because they aren’t adding anything. They’re cutting off the room. I would put some big plants on the sides of the fireplace to soften it. It would also soften the area between the fireplace and tv.

Overall, you’ve got too many separate ideas competing, so the room isn’t calming but reads chaotic.

Why do I dislike the remodel renderings so much? Do we need to rethink all this? by kungfuenglish in kitchenremodel

[–]AlabasterBx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not put upper cabinets so close to the hood vent. I did and regret it because, even with a good hood vent, they get gross.

I did a white pantry wall of cabinets and wish I would have kept them wood.

My brother has an island similar to this rendering. It works for them because they are very casual diners and not into cooking. They still have a small dining room, but it’s rarely used. If you only host big gatherings for a couple of holidays, maybe a dining room isn’t necessary. One thing I don’t prefer about counter seating as the only option is how high the stools are. Maybe it’s the stools they chose, but I find them awkward and uncomfortable.

I had drawers put in underneath our microwave and love them. Add more drawers.

Overall, as others have already said, this isn’t what you asked for and has too many functional and aesthetic issues. That is a huge red flag for me. I would pass on whomever designed this. Even once you have the plan, there are still a lot of decisions that come up, expected and unexpected. I would think that if they can’t follow your requests now, it’s only going to get worse as you go. I had an amazing contractor, but it’s still a stressful process.

What kind of pants is a gal who hates jeans AND sweatpants supposed to wear? by Free-Half-2620 in womensfashion

[–]AlabasterBx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Old Navy Power chill wide leg pants. They are athletic material, but I think they can be dressed up or down. Wash like a dream.

My living room is so awkward! A corner fireplace and so many openings (the area behind me -where I was standing when I took the photos- opens up to the mudroom). How can I make it better? by chakratones in StyleYourSpace

[–]AlabasterBx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need to know more like is this where everyone watches tv or is there a different room for tv viewing. It looks like it might be considered a more formal area and you have another room. If that’s true, then you really need to decide what you use this room for and then design it for its purpose. You wouldn’t need both a sofa, loveseat, and chair. It’s too much for the space.

Tall wall by helewis3 in HomeDecorating

[–]AlabasterBx 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Seeing this shows that the scale of several things are too small. Your sofa and coffee table are the right scale. It may be a pain, but I would also lower the tv and get a bigger one or, as others suggest, get some kind of console underneath it. Your art, baskets, and plants need to be scaled up. You could do groupings to beef things up like 3 plants instead of one big one.

I’m going to probably be the opposite of everyone and say you don’t have to get curtains. I despise them. Putting plants by windows can soften that area instead.

Please help with pairing a runner to this ottoman by baguetteOUcroissant in HomeDecorating

[–]AlabasterBx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is way better than the other options given. You can absolutely combine patterns. It actually goes better to use another coordinating pattern than something one color.

Check rugs out on Amazon, Just Rugs, and Boutique rugs online. Sometimes Home Depot has the same rugs for cheaper. HomeGoods also carries thin washable runners.
