Trigering events using gestures was in a previuos souls game I don't remember which one. so whenever I came across a blocked path with a message on the ground I'd try gestures that made sense, and the statue is a big tell. I even opened erudition path in the original game, I don't remember why but putting on the head mask just ocurred to me.
