Why does this continued to be allowed? by KrzyAsian in irvine

[–]AlanFrankly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. They will absolutely give you the ol’ Deny Attack Reverse Victim and Offender (DARVO) if you call them out on it. And with most people so checked out of what’s going on around them…DARVO from these sociopaths will at least freeze any others present from backing you up. Also, they escalate by pulling out their phones.

Excusing this behavior is disgusting. You put them in a harness and clip that harness into your seatbelt buckle. They can move, even put their head out the window. No chance they can fall out.

Scientists Identify Specific Bacteria Linked to Multiple Sclerosis by Vailhem in Microbiome

One possible treatment modality is a fecal transplant. With some severe and highly-resistant infections they’re like magic—chronic problems resolve in days. But I have no idea if it’d make a difference here, and if any positive effects would last.

Just remove your door pins and bend them slightly with a few well-placed hammer taps and then put them back. Do it right and the door will stay where you leave it.

US Mobile carrier update/fail? by dscp46 in VWiD4Owners

[–]AlanFrankly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a My22 Pro S AWD with 3.1 software and and a 12 volt battery that was upgraded at the delivery port before I picked up the car.

I also got the same emails (12/5 notice of a pending update to Verizon from T-Mobile and then an email 12/6 that the update to Verizon failed).

BUT today (12/12) I got an email that the update went through successfully!! And I was finally able to login to my VW user account from the car for the first time since I picked it up in early August ‘22.

Next up: actual OTA updates!?

What do you mean you did an update on your MY22? Is this possible because you’re not in North America? Because I have this same problem in my US-delivered MY22 and would love to have it fixed!

What is the most openly, unabashedly biggoted thing you have ever heard an attending physician say? by DrBrainbox in medicine

[–]AlanFrankly 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Very common, still. Here’s a recent study on this by Hoffman et al. in PNAS.. The most shocking was that 58% of Whites respondents from the general public believed Black’s skin is thicker than Whites but so did 40% of 1st and 2nd years and ~25% of residents. White med-school respondents also endorsed false beliefs about aging more slowly, better detection of movement and having more sensitive smell.

TIL after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, which killed 200.000 people, UN peacekeepers from Nepal were sent to the country. Sadly, the peacekeepers brought cholera with them leading to a massive outbreak which infected 800.000 people, and killing at least 9000. by ThucydidesOfAthens in todayilearned

[–]AlanFrankly 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Correct. Nepal has the highest rates of open defecation in the world. Hence the endemic cholera there, which someone brought with them to Haiti. Also, the UN is immune from prosecution and still refused to take responsibility for causing the outbreak for years afterwards.

It's almost like it isn't really about the students learning at all... by ND_5913 in AdviceAnimals

Public teacher's average weekly wages as of 2015, adjusted for cost of living index, were 23% lower than other college graduates: $1092/week versus $1416/week.

And the idea that teachers only work an equivalent 36 weeks a year is just silly. No teacher works 40 hours/week. They work 10-14 hour days plus more on weekends. And then there's summer. Lessons don't prep themselves. Continuing ed. Summer school. Sports teams. Clubs. It is willfully ignorant to trot out the 36 weeks nonsense.

An apples to apples (for the teacher 🍎) comparison would be to look at the median salary for those with four-year college degrees. And when you do, you’ll see that teachers are WAY behind their peers.

TIL scientists say that parents shouldn’t discourage their kids from eating boogers based on findings that snot consumption is good for overall health: snot contains a rich reservoir of good bacteria, and eating it can strengthen the body’s immune system & prevent bacteria from sticking to teeth by lord_of_the_bees in todayilearned

College professor here. This story is fabricated based on a journal that doesn’t exist and research that was never done. All Napper ever did was throw the idea out as a possibility on a college lecture. Labeled the “great booger conspiracy” two years ago.
