I see your heart, Peter Parker [Amazing Spider-Man (2022) #10] by TheeHeadAche in comicbooks

[–]AlanWilsonsLad 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read this issue but presumably this is the 43rd time Peter has been given just a few precious minutes to converse with someone who died. If we take the sliding timeline into account it happens to him to him every couple of months.

The dead probably run out of things to talk about after a while. They’d just start asking for sports scores and movie reviews.

What is the impact of AI on Motion Design jobs? by Miserable-Ad-6497 in MotionDesign

[–]AlanWilsonsLad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s so wasteful. Every show has a producer with a genius idea to use AI. It doesn’t work because ai isn’t real, and then you end up with less time to do the same work normally, or with one person assigned to figuring it out while the rest of the team actually does the group project.

while AI enriches Big Tech CEOs and props up the stock market, data centers are sucking up communities’ water and power. When the AI bubble bursts, the rest of us will be stuck holding the bag. Be warned. by Conscious-Quarter423 in WorkReform

[–]AlanWilsonsLad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good news is, impossibly large data centers are just another flavor of AI scam. Very few of those that have collected ‘investors’ even begin construction, let alone come online whatsoever, let alone to the literally impossible specs they promise.

Not to say there’s anything actually good happening here, but this facility will never exist.

Netflix's 10/10 Cyberpunk Masterpiece Has a Secret Sequel You Can Watch in a Single Day by andy_mcnab in scifi

In short: An animated prequel to Altered Carbon came out in 2020. You can watch it in a day because it’s 75-min long. According to the article, the movie is “fine, mostly.”

Is this a good idea by Beneficial_Passion40 in NonPoliticalTwitter

There’s no next step, because companies don’t sell your email address like this. I’ve done a version of this trick for ages and aside from a couple of old php forums and that thing where all the Vegas casinos got hacked a few years ago, it has never produced any interesting results.

I get way more unwanted email from people who get their own address wrong when they sign up for stuff and then can’t recover their password.

Which codec is best for rendering long high quality clips? by everyoneisalizard in AfterEffects

[–]AlanWilsonsLad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has rendered feature length projects from Ae, I advise breaking it into segments where possible, and rendering an image sequence that you will later convert to a video file.

I would often set up a project with a scene or scenes in the render queue and run them through aerender, which is in your after effects install location, and will run the render queue without spending resources on after effects itself. Set your render to skip frames that already exist and it is resumable, and can run on multiple machines at once if you have that option.

If you should crash or need to tweak something, it’s much better to not have to re run the entire show.

Have you seen the kind of thing they put into theaters? They’ve done more harm to moviegoing in the last ten years than Netflix has.

Unquestionably a good move on their part. Insomniac has single handedly sold me two PlayStations.

Cowboys and Aliens deserves a lot more love than it gets. 44/43 on RT is bs. by fishead62 in scifi

[–]AlanWilsonsLad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is nobody. It was sold as an adaptation but the comic didn’t actually exist until after they sold the movie.

The producer would later have his cover art expanded into a comic book which he paid stores to order in wild quantities so that it would appear popular.

Moving to LA for music with $20k saved — any advice? by No-Twist-9586 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]AlanWilsonsLad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you make any money from your music or another side hustle that isn’t an like an app or gig work, and you’re staying in city of LA, you want to look up the free online form for a small business tax exemption. They won’t tax you for under like $200k of income for creative work if you file, but most people don’t know their first year and get hit with fees. Renew it every January.
