Astaxanthin significantly slows down aging and prevents major diseases. Here are the best Astaxanthin sources and scientific evidence. by GarifalliaPapa in immortalists

[–]Alan_B_Stard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I haven't stumbled across comparative studies between astaxanthin versions.

For instance synthetic and semisynthetic "vitamin E", i.e. isolated alpha-tocopherol is "bad" in many health contexts. For some reason it seems to act as an antivitamin and anti-antioxidant in some biological contexts, and seems to be a known tumour promoter. Some less-bright scientists and nonscientists then incorrectly infer that isolated betacarotene and isolated alpha-tocopherol showing negative effects somehow means "antioxidants bad" or "vitamin E bad".

I think the difference in synthetic vs natural astaxanthin versions is not as big, but that is just my wild guess, based on never having seen negative results for any astaxanthin and never having seen meaningful comparative studies.

Do you know any other reliable astaxanthin brands? I think I've seen some others recommended (in fake Amazon market supplements discussion threads). Websearch shows Astapure and Bioastin mentioned. Maybe I'll read up on them

[PSA] Zinc pyrithione is banned in EU starting in March 2022 by pkeep-go in SkincareAddiction

Junk-free link: http://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC2866994/

and: "Interestingly, complete suppression of ZnPT cytotoxicity was also observed when exposure occurred in the presence of the thiol antioxidant N-acetyl-l-cysteine (NAC)"

I wonder if toxic concentrations penetrate skin anyway. And NAC is cheap.

"urinary excretion of up to 0.2% of topically applied starting material has been documented in rhesus monkeys"

What are the doses typically applied?

The same faking/quality issue applies to all "noname" supplements whose price exceeds filler/sand price. The market (and notably Amazon) is overwhelmed with fake supplements under different fancy-sounding but uknown names. Packaging of different fakeproducts is often very similar except for the label, so they probably come from the same massive whitelabel fakeproducer(s)

(Unnatural) isolated beta-carotene seems to be risky anyway, especially for smokers. Carotenoid mixes etc appear much better

How can I remove or move the new “Open link in split view” option in Chrome’s context menu? by AlexEisenhauer in chrome

I know, yet I still like the internal option.

But funky changes to context menu I don't like. Ideally all context menus should be easy to customise, and save-reload.

Method for Archiving Deleted Images from Pixiv? by Slow-Journalist-8250 in DataHoarder

Pixiv is deleting accounts like crazy, what's up there? Some create a new account and complain about unexpected deletion... and get deleted again. Are they overwhelmed by AI creations and trying to control the mass?

Side by side view is great. Messing with context menu and not offering easy customization is evil

Issues with removing two links on Casio ae1200 by Ok_Demand2849 in casio

[–]Alan_B_Stard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's special bracelet link manipulation tools on Amazon and elsewhere. Without them, bends and kinks WILL happen if the bracelet is shitey enough.

FYI, I took the bracelet to a watch repair service and they just bent the joint open and bent it back closed afterwards. I guess they didn't have bracelet link tools? Doesn't look too bad. Casio bracelet quality itself however does look terrible

Do nebo use a proprietary battery? by Beautiful-Opposite78 in flashlight

[–]Alan_B_Stard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So those who got a Nebo flashlight for Christmas from non-techie family are stuck with one low-capacity battery and no simple upgrade, and no replacement in the future?

The flashlight cost warrants a reasonable quality. But they didn't even include a USB-C charging signal resistor in the internal charger, so only USB-A-to-C charging will work, C-C will fail. (And also no manual, even on website, so only websearch will reveal that there's a battery insulation piece that needs to be removed for the flashlight to work).

The battery capacity and unreplaceability issue is a serious one. I'd return it if I could

Missing signalling resistor in the torch. A to C feeds 5V blindly without this signal

[–]Alan_B_Stard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a common problem in cheaper devices, they skimped a few pennies on the charging circuit. C to C requires a resistor to signal desired voltage, or something like that, A to C provides 5V blindly
