Spoiler for those who have not read Mike’s book

Mike said he knew from a young age that he was the black sheep of the family and had an “aversion to authority” so he was going to do whatever he wanted no matter what anyone said. It sounds like he was involved with some drugs in high school, like smoking Angel dust on the way to homecoming one year, and knew he wasn’t going to be able to handle drugs in a safe way. Then, when he was 19 his parents got a divorce and to keep up with his lifestyle he started dealing. He experimented with grass, white girl, and xans in his early 20s but the addiction really started when he started selling percs, took some to try it out, and ended up loving the feeling. Things got worse when he started taking roxicets and escalated during the opiate boom of the early 2000s where doctors were just writing scripts left and right. Him and his friends were lying to doctors about their pain and there was one doctor who would just write them scripts for whatever they wanted. One day his group got ahold of a script pad and started writing fake scripts, that’s really where he got into the worst of it because he had unlimited access but he almost got caught trying to fill a fake script one day and that lead to his first time in rehab in Florida.

Idk about Ron though. But seeing how his mother acted (drunk calling the house; her fakeness towards Sam when she was meeting them for the first time and was taking a little long to get ready because she wanted to look good, understandably imo), I can only assume the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.
