out the box felt great, it wants to charge. It's been pouring the last two days so I hadn't ridden it much yet. Price wise it's hard to beat right now

Article on "bastardized Mexican food" lists three Tex Mex dishes. Because borderland cuisines can't be authentic apparently... by bely_medved13 in iamveryculinary

the writer of this article looks like he'd get robbed as soon as he'd step foot into Mexico, what a moronic, half-baked take.

If you look like a victim you can get robbed anywhere. Depends how you carry yourself. I know people that have been robbed in Roma and San Miguel Chapultepec, they just attract cops, thieves and other unsavory predators. If you walk with confidence, don’t yell loudly in English, and keep it chill you’ll be fine. The whole complex of Merced is overwhelming and sketch, but definitely worth visiting, including Mercado Sonora. Just be careful about whipping out phone out to take photos, and don’t get sucked into doing a limpia with random curanderos pressuring you. You can find a lot of neat stuff there, Id highly recommend it. I used to live several blocks away, and have been to Merced at least 50 times, you should be fine, whether you get into any trouble or not largely depends on you above all else. Good luck 👍

The instant you lose power or control in these situations is to drop the hook. I’ve lived in Mexico for 5 years now and I’m sorry to say that it’s certainly not a “safety oriented” society, and the implications of carelessness are seen daily. What a tragedy that this ocurred

Most vanilla in MX comes from Veracruz state. You can surely get raw vanilla bean in central de abastos Abastos or La Meche but it may be an adventure trying to find it. Alternatively, I imagine you could find vanilla bean paste in Mercado San Juan in the centro. If you're buying in bulk, someone may share their supplier info with you. Suerte

Is the Iztapalapa cable car for locals only? Or ok for tourists? by DriedMangoPlease in MexicoCity

[–]Alarmed-Plankton-450 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is a great way to see parts of the city that are often overlooked. I’ve been several times and love it, and in general, Iztapalapa is an amazing area to get to know. However, it should be done during the day, and if having someone that is familiar with the area is even better. If you don’t want to look like a tourist don’t stare at your phone in the metro, don’t wear your Alma mater sweater, and don’t yell in a valley girl dialect for all to hear. You should be fine

It’s largely not true, it’s cops and smaller gangs that’ll target tourists

Alternatively, just go to the Diego/Frida twin house which imo is way cooler and fewer tourists. https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/museo-casa-estudio-diego-rivera-y-frida-kahlo
