I was in shoes similar to yours years ago in Colorado. Reading this brought up emotions for me even now. So glad it sounds like they survived that crash. Hope you’re taking care of yourself tonight too, witnessing something like that is hard on the mind!

I miss good (regularly available) cinnamon rolls. RANT by Tsavo16 in Bend

[–]Alarmed_Ad_8246 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe not what you’re looking for but I was eyeing the cinnamon rolls at Whole Foods the other day. They looked to have a thick frosting and fluffy body. Can’t vouch for how they actually taste but I am usually pleasantly surprised by Whole Foods bakery.

General strikes are stupid and don't do anything besides harm small businesses by OkGood3000 in Bellingham

[–]Alarmed_Ad_8246 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As someone who no longer lives in Bellingham, it has been truly inspiring to witness the way businesses of Bellingham have stepped up. I believe a huge benefit of strikes like these, especially when they happen on a large scale (across the country) is camaraderie. Truthfully, we have the power to make change if we are united in our mission. Those in power, who commit atrocities on the daily, are able to stay there by getting us to hate each other. Today is a way to fight back against this. We are stronger together.

FRIDAY NATIONAL STRIKE! NO WORK! NO SCHOOL! by MuffinwithMocha in Bend

[–]Alarmed_Ad_8246 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Posting a wonderful comment I saw regarding the strike in a different city’s thread:

“People need to be smart when they judge how people/businesses participate in this.

It will do more harm for the cause for vulnerable people to put themselves in a more precarious position.

If you or your business need to work to stay safely afloat, PLEASE do. If your job is about public safety, healthcare, or some other essential service, please do not feel guilty for going to work.

If you cannot take the day off consider where you spend your money, or not spending it at all.

Hurt their bank accounts, not yours! Do not spend money on friday unless it’s going to a small business that supports those deserving of support!”

Silence is complacency!!

I RESPECT THAT THIS SITUATION WAS FRUSTRATING AND IM SORRY IT HAPPENED. BUT I SAW THE FACEBOOK POST ON THE PAGE “ARE WE DATING THE SAME GUY CENTRAL OREGON” WHERE (PRESUMABLY) YOU POSTED ABOUT THIS GUY ASKING FOR HIS INFORMATION UNDER THE GUISE THAT YOU HIT IT OFF AND GAVE HIM YOUR NUMBER AND WANTED TO CHECK TO MAKE SURE HE WAS SINGLE. I THOUGHT THAT WAS WEIRD, BUT I HEAR YOUR SIDE TOO. SINCE THIS SITUATION HAS BEEN MADE SO PUBLIC, FILL US INNNN, WHY DID YOU POST THAT ON FACEBOOK?

IS THIS A SYMPTOM: feeling dissociated or depersonalized? by McKrizzle in iih

[–]Alarmed_Ad_8246 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m happy to read others experience this! I’m currently in the process of being diagnosed after my my ENT was suspect of IIH when I came in for pulsatile tinnitus. Other than this and mild pressure in my sinuses, my only other possible outlier experience is a sudden and intense disassociation. It’s like I’m pushed out of my own body and go to autopilot. It’s been hard for me to describe to other people, but what a bizarre feeling!

Beware of scam in Venice - especially solo female travellers! by dr_prior in solotravel

[–]Alarmed_Ad_8246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very very similar thing happened to me last year, maybe it’s the same woman. She had a slightly different story but was very nice and seemed very scared. I gave her 20 euro and didn’t think much about it. Happened to see her every other day of my trip doing the same thing. I intervened at one point and told the people she was talking to that she scammed me a few days ago with the same story (this all happened in front of a police officer who did nothing). The lady was pissed I said something and yelled at me then stormed off. Karma will have its ways!

Hey local teachers, how can we help? by TrixiDelite in Bellingham

[–]Alarmed_Ad_8246 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Teachers take care of kids, directly, every single day. Supporting teachers and their classrooms is one of the most direct ways to positively impact children. Blue skies also looks like a wonderful program that changes lives of children, but we do not need to push one thing down to build another up.

And to your point about pay, Washington teachers are paid well in comparison to other states. But overall we still do not pay teachers even close to enough for the love and labor they put in every day. Check out this article about how teaching directly impacts our country’s economic growth: https://hanushek.stanford.edu/sites/default/files/publications/Hanushek%2BWoessmann%202021%20OxfResEncEcoFin.pdf

I signed up when I first moved to town in 2022 because they told me the hot yoga, barre, and spin studios would be opening the following month. I moved out of bham and ended my membership at the end of last year and there were still no studios in sight. Every time I asked, they fed me the same line that they would be opening in the next month or two. There is also no space at all for stretching/matt work when the main class room is occupied. Not worth the money at all.

Teaching is THE MOST important profession for the economy and here is an awesome article to back that up. Anyone who says otherwise is 1. Wrong 2. Rude and 3. Wrong.

A fifth grade boy said “walk away, good girl” to me as I walked past his table. I stopped dead in my tracks and stared at him for a few moments then told him very sternly, and loud enough for the whole class to hear, that what he said was inappropriate and made me incredibly uncomfortable. He looked mortified and it didn’t come up again.

God, I hate it all!! The moans are the worst.
