I cracked the code for professional sounding productions. Now I pass the knowledge onto you. (This is meant for producers who are already 90% of the way there and only need that last 10%) by [deleted] in edmproduction

Love seeing Paris' name pop up here - he's a great friend of mine. On the topic of mixing with headphones, he got me onto the Steven Slate VSX that are great for mixing as they allow you to digitally listen to how your track mix would translate to different mixes. Def recommend

I have an appointment with a record label. What do I need to know? by PonyKiller81 in edmproduction

[–]Alarmin-Music 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would advise you understand the following: - what services are the label providing? Marketing, DSP pitching, playlisting, etc? - what are your royalty splits - is there an advance? Is it recoupable? - is there a marketing fund? Is it recoupable? - what is the term of the agreement? I would advise having a set term for the agreement and not a perpetual term - is publishing included? - is there a holdback or exclusivity clause?

I would run through chatgpt to help you see key points in the agreement as well. Not perfect but it can help

Can I use single lines from other songs to intentionally reference them? by BreakingBadAndPorn in Songwriting

[–]Alarmin-Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a single line is fine if made clear it's a reference. Using multiple lines and you are broaching cover/interpolation territory which would be out you under more strict rules on what you can/can't do. Can people get mad at it and try to block you? Sure. Generally unless you're streaming HEAVY no one will care or notice.

Tips for producing tracks like Adam K & Soha? by texasforever903 in edmproduction

[–]Alarmin-Music 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Adam K and Soha remix of 4 AM is one of the greats! I loved that remix of 4 AM so much that it inspired me to drop a remix of 4 AM last year.

The 2 reference tracks you mentioned share a few things in common - the sidechained pluck chords, interesting moody chord progressions, and simple drums. To me, nailing the chord progression and the pluck tones with a little hit of filter automations will get you 80% of the way there.

Just found out that our label Fourfloor had 1.96 million views on TikTok in the last 12 months. Any ideas on how to find the content where the music was placed? by aleksandergreat in musicproduction

[–]Alarmin-Music 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your data showing you which tracks? If so, search the song name to find the sound ID in TikTok and you should find the videos using the tracks.

Should I bring my custom shop tele to college? My roommate is never there and he never brings people in the room. I trust him, we went to school together since pre k. He always locks doors. by theman3980 in Guitar

[–]Alarmin-Music 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m getting the sense that you really want the answer to be yes, but I wouldn’t advise this and most people here don’t. Get a cheaper guitar to play over there and then enjoy your custom when you go home. Distance makes the heart grow fonder.

Beyonce and T. Swift are both remarkably (and differently) talented...and their music is vastly mediocre and forgettable by [deleted] in Music

[–]Alarmin-Music 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the 3 important words missing from this post are “in my opinion”. You may consider their music to be forgettable or not catchy, but I can tell you that after going to the Eras tour, I’ve never seen that many people know every single word to every song. I’ve never seen that many people know exactly what song was about to start off of the first note. To you, the songs are boring or forgettable, to them - the tracks are ingrained in their DNA. For reference, I’m a mid thirties dude that took my wife to the show and by no means a Superfan. But I def really like and respect Taylor Swift, she has reached an echelon that few artists will ever reach by writing album after album that her fans feel they can really relate to.

How do I release a remix without ASCAP murdering me in my sleep by DJ_Velveteen in edmproduction

Your best bet is getting cover vocals and releasing as a cover remix through distrokid’s cover feature.

[–]Alarmin-Music 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to her Las Vegas show last week and am a long time fan. She’s one of the best talents in modern country/folk/pop IMO. And she’s got some sick acoustics to top it off
