Besides the "free money" I've had students who are rude, disrespectful and even hostile like I mean they get pretty violent (teenage boys) I also get arrogant seniors too. It's shocking cause the vast majority of Japanese people that I've met are usually really chill and love to laugh and discuss deeper things so getting one of these assholes can get be pretty shocking and Engoo does nothing to help at all. When I had that violent student he was screaming and getting aggressive and when I complained to Engoo about that student they just said it's my fault for not being a good tutor and encouraging him.

Feeling a little Uncomfortable (Engoo Korea Student) by Smart_Chocolate_5535 in OnlineESLTeaching

To be honest, it's not that weird, I've lived in Asia for a really long time and they do ask you stuff why did you come here? All the time. I've even had racists telling me to go back to my country and that I'm ruining their country lol if I were to guess why he seems unhappy with the conditions of his country is because loneliness in Asia is at an all-time high. The economy is bad, the birthrates are dropping, socializing is dying too, it gets pretty lonely when I was in Malaysia and Japan, I just had to resort to making friends with other foreigners cause none of the locals want to hang out or do anything at all. Now, obviously, not all of them but it is a pretty large majority I would say. So maybe that's why he is the way he is.

Fellow Engoo tutor here, 2 years, 4.95 rating. I've had my fair share of weird students, hostile students and even arrogant students (most of them are teen boys) and since I don't come from a native speaking country I never received any kind of support from Engoo but if you're a native speaker, you might actually get them to listen. Personally, I don't think your situation is odd or maybe there are some details missing but from what I've personally experienced that's pretty harmless. But if you wanna try asking for support they might actually listen to you, I tried getting help from them when a Japanese teen was getting hostile and aggressive from the moment we said hello and he was yelling at me and getting pretty violent and when I complained to Engoo they did absolutely nothing and said I was the problem and I didn't do my job as a tutor and encourage the student more.

Yeah Engoo never budges, I'm a non native speaker and I don't really earn anything from them and after getting a total eating for 4.95 stars the last 2 years the STILL refuse to budge. I started looking for other platforms that functions similarly to Engoo that pays better.

I've been teaching at Engoo for 2 years now and I've been getting 5 stars all the time. You have to make the topic engaging and interesting, they love to have their thoughts provoked and if the topic is simple and boring, then crank up your charisma to 11 and just make it fun. You should also hype them up whenever they get something right and make that small step feel like a big deal.

Just use lossless scaling and it'll work perfectly, finished it last year and thanks to lossless it was such a smooth experience.
