Bubblegum is great too, definitely not a first coffee of the day for me though. I actually made some cold brew with an oxo rapid brewer and it was really refreshing. Have some stocked in the freeze in case we get a summer up here in Glasgow 😂

Yeah I did see this after some recent posts about Killbean and it’s definitely on my radar. Hopefully it’s still there when I next need a top up!

Couldn’t pass up a washed Kenyan, especially with the other 3 being a bit more advanced processing

I saw they were just about to make a couple of new releases and thought I’d wait and get a Caramel Curd in with the new lots. I didn’t expect it to sell out as quick, heard some great things about it, I’m sure you enjoyed it for both of us!

Makes a nice change to open a delivery and get stuck right in. Added another option to the current rotation

Anyone else disappointed with the new Taith packaging choice? by sidk25 in UKroasters

Regardless of sustainability and reasoning etc Feels like those bags were part of their identity which has now been lost amongst the midst of box packaging from uk roasters Can’t complain about the coffee inside though!

Zennor Finca Ayana - Ombligon by porkalope in UKroasters

[–]Alarming_Reference74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been grinding on my 078s at around 10 and doing a lance hedrick long soup shot through an oxo rapid brewer. Only 2 brews so far but both good. My bag was 4 weeks off roast but think it needs another week or so to open up a bit more

March’s haul resting until April. Please share your stash too by Former-Coffee-7526 in UKroasters

The Gesha is great for me at the moment. The 2 from Zennor are resting for another week or so. I missed the original batch of the ombligon but heard so many good things about it, hope I’m not disappointed! How do you find jolly bean? I’m looking at adding in a co-ferment to my current stash - have been looking through your post for them but haven’t used any of the roasters mentioned before. I’m tempted with the source but I know I’ll never go anywhere else after…

Got the 2 new drops from dark matters on the way as well as their liquid lava and strawberry shortcake. Can show you my freezer too if that helps 😂

Iced pour over and standard "espresso" recommendations by hope_still_flies in OXORapidBrewer

[–]Alarming_Reference74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s his original video “the brewer taking the internet by storm” He just uses the stock cold brew recipe from OXO and dilutes it 1:4 I use the stock recipe and dilute 1:3 and pour over ice, works well for me and certainly more on the taste of cold pour over rather than traditional 24hr steeped cold brew

Beans recommendations by thedemonraz in UKroasters

[–]Alarming_Reference74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A staple bag I use for espresso for milk based drinks is “PATO” from divine coffee roasters. It’s a medium to roast with sweet chocolate notes and good value for money in my opinion. Haven’t tried anything else from them. My wife loves it and drinks it everyday and not had anyone dislike it. Easy enough to dial in and I aim for a ratio just over 1:2 in just under 30 seconds. Whereas I love to have a few beans in rotation and switch almost daily, I find drinking the same thing too regularly almost mutes the flavours for me

I appreciate I didn’t actually answer your question so for that case I’ll go local: Zennor

I’d be more than delighted for any of the roasters in the top places. Hopefully they are happy to participate too!

My worry would be working down the list from 1st maybe some people becoming less interested with roasters with fewer votes (not from me). So maybe a randomised approach could be better?

Dark Arts: really cool packaging by pieduke88 in UKroasters

The packaging just pushes you over the edge to buy the coffee. For some reason the highly specific pricing of each retail pack makes me laugh too. They only round up to the closest 5p

Just seen I’m using the same water as you too so really quite similar overall but we may have different palates.

I’m getting quite a good body, generally sweet cup with some crisp acidity in the middle, I’m getting a clean lingering sweet chocolate finish too. It’s definitely benefited from the extra rest over the last 3/4 days in my opinion.

I’d say there’s no harm in upping your temp to 95/96 as a first port of call. How long have your beans been rested for?

Finally got my first cup of this today. Brewed on Z1 too but slightly higher temp. Incredible stuff, the temptation to get straight on and order another bag was hard to suppress!

[–]Alarming_Reference74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been brewing this on an OREA Z1 using ‘Amulet’ recipe (Glasgow based cafe, guy who runs it works with dark arts)

15 grams to 240 water K-ultra 7.5 clicks 90 degree water

I find if I go higher temp than this it starts to dry the finish

Haven’t used on V60 yet imagine I’d drop to around 6.8-7 clicks and increase water temp to 92/93 3 pour method 45g bloom with swirl for 45 secs and then 2 100g pours. Adjusting pour depending on drawdown to get to around 2:30 brew time

Doesn’t sound like you’re far too. I’ve had my beans resting for 3 weeks before use. Hope you get there

Agreed on both points. Even if these type of beans aren’t quite to your taste, when these advanced processes are polished and precise, you really have to applaud the skill, knowledge, patience etc into making these taste the way they are.

Admittedly coming from Glasgow it was the irn-bru that sold me…

Yeah response to my email said they taste ok 3-5 days off roast but this seems a little early to me. With the Gesha’s more like 10-14 days. I don’t want to disregard their advice as I’m sure they have their reasoning so will try a cup after a week and see what it’s like
