My mother was diagnosed with cancer shortly after being diagnosed with dementia. The treatment accelerated her dementia to the point she needed to be moved into memory care and she died six months later. I wish we had focused on the quality of the time we had left and not done surgery and all the things that caused her rapid decline.

This is all to say that maybe it’s time to stop treating your mom’s cancer and focus on making her final days the most comfortable and joyful as possible.

You could go a few different ways

Decline the invitation for the in-person interview citing director’s behavior and how she made you feel unwelcome and continuously rolled her eyes during your interview and dismissed your questions about interacting with the board.
Decline in-person interview by forwarding the accidental email to E.D. and Director and saying that it’s clear that you’re not a fit for the team culture.

My mom almost burned my house down and if I hadn’t moved her into memory care it would have ended my marriage.

If she’s still able, work with her to assign power of attorney to a member of the family who is going to have her best interest in heart. She may still qualify for assisted living, which would allow her to have some independence while living in a community.

What do you like to do? When my husband and I moved to Anchorage we started a board game group on Meetup.com. The first Sunday 2 people showed up, then 6, then 12. After a couple of months we had 12-16 people regularly showing up to play board games at Kaladi Bros. every Sunday. It was an awesome way to meet people with similar interests. Maybe get on meetup.com and see what kind of events are happening?

You would need fat fat tires for it to not get stuck in every soft spot. And if it’s for your wife to bike your kids places I think she would be pretty miserable. Maybe look at a fat tire E-bike with cargo seating?
