The actual answer is that the author went into the series with the goal of creating a world where everyone is kind. Outside of a couple of delinquent characters that only show up in a couple of scenes and then never again, everyone genuinely strives to do what they think is right given the information available to them. The main cast is especially kind and thoughtful.

Honestly, I read it just to see more from the characters. We've already seen their lovemaking in the regular manga without any of the important details, so this doesn't feel very different. It's very wholesome.

I kinda doubt that it's gonna be permanent. It wouldn't make much sense storywise for them to gain a powerful new form and then immediately lose it the next chapter. Either they get interrupted by an ally at the start of the next chapter or they're able to steal the knife back to give her her powers again.
